Chris Christie’s big problem -Lawrence discussing now with Rollins
Here's Eugene's column
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/chris-christies-big-problem/2011/09/29/gIQAAL7J8K_story.html
<snip>
Whether or not he lets himself be persuaded to run for president, Chris Christie needs to find some way to lose weight. Like everyone else, elected officials perform best when they are in optimal health. Christie obviously is not.

You could argue that this is none of my business, but I disagree. Christie’s problem with weight ceased being a private matter when he stepped into the public arena — and it’s not something you can fail to notice. Obesity is a national epidemic whose costs are measured not just in dollars and cents but also in lives. Christie’s weight is as legitimate an issue as the smoking habit that President Obama says he has finally kicked.

On rare occasions, Christie speaks candidly about his weight. “I’m really struggling, been struggling for a long time with it,” he told CNN’s Piers Morgan in June. “And I know that it would be better for my kids if I got it more under control, and so I do feel a sense of guilt at times about that.”

1. At least he'd get the fat vote
seriously. Meatloaf said as much.

Plus, this is all BS about him running, it's filler for the media and the GOP is desperate to look more "exciting".

2. Christie cannot last a campaign season with that weight
Listen to him talk - he's barely breathing.

10. Actually, I doubt that.... The extremely overweight are more aware than most
about he very real health risks. I heard an interesting discussion on Ed's radio show today. The caller was overweight but her husband, extremely so--around 400 pounds. She was very very clear in her concerns about having the stress of a Presidency on top of all those other risk factors for heart disease (and many other potentially fatal conditions). She also mentioned the very short temper she felt her husband had developed as his weight went up and up-- given Christie's notorious short fuse, one has to wonder. There is an animal model (rat) for extreme obseity when a certain area of the brain is stimulated and which is accompanied by extreme aggression that was discussed by another caller... I also heard this discussed on the tale end of Sirota's show (yes, I know, I know--I'm not normally a listener but thought MHP was going to be on). His self-admitted heavy callers were likewise pretty universal in their concerns.

Before anyone gets sensitive about this, I too have constantly fought weight--never to the extremes we are talking about here, and fortunately I am pretty active and healthy, but nonetheless... I can certainly relate.

3. Joe Scarborough doesn't think he can endure the Prez race in his present condition.
Too exhausting.

5. If he runs...
At some point the media will demand to see the results of his latest physical.

If he won't release the report, he's done, IMHO.

6. But he was rushed to hospital once this year already
and he took a helicopter to his son's football game and had to be driven yards in a limo because he could not walk.
