2. He killed himself so we'll never know what would have happened
Edited on Fri Sep-30-11 08:18 PM by lunatica
But chances are very good that he would have been given a trial. Actually the Russians found his bunker so who knows what happened.

20. AQ members would kill themselves first, too
And take some others with them.

Someone willing to kill themselves can do anything they damn well please. We can't stop them in traditional ways.

3. Yeah, but Stalin was looking forward to one and was annoyed that he had killed himself.
SMERSH had orders to take him alive.

4. Pol Pot
But apparently he would have if he had lived long enough

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pol_pot

^snip^

On the night of April 15, 1998, the Voice of America, of which Pol Pot was a devoted listener, announced that the Khmer Rouge had agreed to turn him over to an international tribunal. According to his wife, he died in his bed later in the night while waiting to be moved to another location. Ta Mok claimed that his death was due to heart failure.<40> Despite government requests to inspect the body, it was cremated a few days later at Anlong Veng in the Khmer Rouge zone, raising strong suspicions that he committed suicide or was poisoned.<41>

Good Lord that list is long! yoo, bybee, addington, libby, and all the bloodthirsty empire-lusting PNACers prodding them onward.

13. 1. Hitler declared war on a COUNTRY
2. Hitler was not an American citizen

How many times does this have to be repeated? It's a simple concept really and I'm sure if we put our thinking caps on and try real hard, we can achieve actual learning.

21. AQ has declared war on a country
And since when are citizens the only ones entitled to due process?

You mean if the guy just weren't a US citizen you 'd be fine with it?

Americans are so special.

What were they supposed to do, gather up his ashes and give those a trial? If he hadn't killed himself, I do believe he would have gotten a trial.

Godwin's Law...

18. Exactly. This Hitler reference makes no sense to me at all.
Millions of people all around the world would have liked to see him stand trial and get whatever punishment was decided on. Including my mother, who lost numerous relatives fighting in that war.

22. Is this a serious post or are you merely mocking all of the nonsense that's posted by DUers
seeking to justify war crimes because they voted for the war criminal in question when they used to ooze faux outrage when a war criminal from a different party committed lesser war crimes (I seriously believe many of the people here disliked detention and wiretapping without due process and love execution without trial. The issue was apparently just that the wrong party was in power).

25. There are some pretty heinous laws
Everything Hitler did to the citizens of Germany was "legal" under German laws. He would have been subject to international courts if he had lived, though.
Likewise neither Bush nor Obama have violated US laws. If people here want to lobby the international court- go for it.
Disagree and hate the act all we want, but hyperbole gets us nowhere.
