New York City on Alert for Revenge Attacks Following Al-Awlaki Killing

IBTimes Staff Reporter | September 30, 2011 3:57 PM EDT
New York City police are on high alert of possible revenge attacks amid news that American-born al-Qaida operative Anwar al-Awlaki was killed in an air strike by U.S. forces in Yemen, Reuters reported.

New York Police commissioner Ray Kelly said Friday that police are worried that al-Awlaki has followers in the city "who might want to avenge his death."

"We know al-Awlaki had followers in the United States, including New York City, and for that reason we remain alert to the possibility that someone might want to avenge his death," Kelly said in a statement. "He was a powerful recruiter of terrorists in the United States..."

I know nothing about the source of this...just found it interesting in conjunction with the growing support of the protests...

1. Not really.
When the Israeli protests against lack of jobs and housing were growing this summer, with a march of 400,000, there was a convenient terror attack that made them back down.

5. That's precisely what I thought...
If anything, it just demonstrates that our overlords are shameless liars and manipulators.

More reason to press on--to affect change---rather than give up.

7. I doubt it.
On the other hand, I betcha if a Neo-Nazi or 'Christian Militia' psycho were to plan out a chemical, biological, or even NUCLEAR attack on a major city like Chicago, Dallas, or San Jose, we'd be lucky if ONE major outlet covered anything before the day that the attack was supposed to happen.

12. As liberal as San Francisco?
SF is a bigger target, larger population, a more diverse population.. don't get me wrong, I would hate for any city to be a target, but the Right wing hates San Francisco. Even Bill O'Reilly once said, he hopes the terrorists come here!

18. Probably not quite as tempting a target.
After all, it was S.F. which practically birthed the national hippie movement in the '60s........right?

19. The Right wing hates "the different".
They hate the poor, they hate the minorities, the gay and lesbian movement, the non religious, the non Christian, the Christian who is not far right enough... San Francisco is a city of the diverse, that covers all of this. Its a legitimate target for right wing hate.

I wouldn't put it past them to use that as an excuse for a crackdown.

That would take care of those pesky protesters, now wouldn't it.
I put nothing past them.
Nothing.

safer now that he's dead?

This shit will not end as long as we continue to be the aggressive superpower. There will always be someone there to take over.
