Pictures from the Occupy KC protest
Held in the shadow of the Liberty Memorial, also known as the Penis on the Plains.

First thing I saw when I arrived was this car:

There was a small crowd. The image in the background is an artistic piece made up of containers. It's been in this park for about a month. Its placement is right next to the Federal Reserve building.

Some of their signs:

The Oath Keepers were there also. I got a picture but for some reason it isn't downloading.

Draw your own conclusions about who's in charge here.

4. Why there instead of at the JC Nichols Fountain
just off the Plaza where all the anti-war protests were? Just curious.

7. The Federal Reserve is there
I'm guessing that's the reason.

15. Oh, Except that people have to go out of their way to go to the
Liberty Memorial, whereas lots and lots pass by the JC Nichols Fountain every day.

6. The Ron Paul crew are nothing but a bunch of shitstirrers.
They like to gripe about what is wrong, they have no valid solutions to fix the problems save "Fuck the government, leave everyone to fend for themselves."

I gotta say "Penis on the Plains" is pretty amusing!

Great pics, thanks for putting them up.

9. They want NO rules at all.
The rich get richer when there are no rules...and the poor? They become serfs.

10. I know, they are totally misguided.
But they share a little of the same angst, nonetheless.

12. Occupy KC
I've been a member here for years, but never post, just read. This I have to respond to. I'm a member of Occupy KC, I've been there off and on since Friday when this first started there. You walk in and take a few pictures without talking to anyone, of course you'll come away with this view. The fact is, this occupation was only 3 days old today. We're still organizing, still drawing in people, still looking for our collective voice. My guess is the peak number of people we've had there all at once, is near 100, though I think we're probably closer to 200 with the people coming and going. We are from all political persuasions and we all have different reasons for being there. The one thing we have in common is intense discontent with the way things are now. The economy to the government and everything in between. It's difficult to refine this down to a simple message, but we're working on it. The number of people present on that little space of park we have varies depending on the time of day, the day of the week etc. Some of the younger members do carry their signs down the hill to the busy street, or as yesterday, march over to Union Station. The thing to understand is that this isn't a simple protest. We're creating a community with plans to endure until we grow this thing into a movement. It's an idea who's time has come. It's time we as Americans, if we ever want real lasting change and not just pretty campaign promises, reach out to our neighbors in all walks of life to find our commonality and overcome the divisiveness that's been sown by our media and so many of our so-called leaders. There is much to be organized. How will we feed each other, how will we survive the cold weather that's coming, what exactly should all those posters say that will make a difference to someone driving by in the 3 or 4 seconds they have to read it.

The kids in NYC that are so publicly working through their problems, coming to consensus, are an inspiration. They are heroes as far as I'm concerned. This is what the peace movement 40 years ago should have been. We are leaderless, because we're all leaders, we all have a voice in these discussions as we shape what we want our world to become. Finally, FINALLY, there is a movement taking place that will encompass anyone who cares to join it and join in. It's not political, yet it will shape our politics in the future. This is important. This is only just beginning. If you don't like what you see driving by, then stop and talk. Everyone is willing to listen. Occupations are beginning to take place all over the nation. This is the chance for real change. Take a chance, join us. I can't spend my nights there. I work. I can't spend my days there. But, I lend every bit of support I possibly can when I'm able. It's time to concentrate on what we have in common, not what divides us. When we do that, we discover that we're all the same family.

Join us!

13. I think every protest near a Federal Reserve bank is going to attract the Ron Paul nuts.
Those types are really big into anti-Semitic conspiracy theories involving the Fed.
