3. Of course it is. Have you looked at the economy lately?
Oil and gas prices always go down during recessions as demand declines, so this drop in gas prices is better understood as a "Pyrrhic victory".

27. Every penny it drops...
....pushes the day when the reality of global warming finally is addressed further down the road.

And in any event, the drop is due to a drop in demand, and the drop in demand is purely an artifact of the recession.

Just think how low gas prices could drop if U3 were were U6 is -- 22%.

32. Every penny it drops is a penny that people can spend on something other than gas
Besides, most 'discretionary' driving isn't influenced by price.

By discretionary I mean trips that could be done on foot or on a bike.

Those are short trips so the savings are minimal.

If I bike to work instead of drive I save 25 cents a day.

Money isn't what motivates me and that's how we can address the issue: By encouraging people to really think about their actions and the consequences of those actions.

People would fill their cars with luggage, just to give the impression they were going on a long trip.

The increased weight would mess up their fuel economy.
