There's Something Happening-- BIG!! Are You In?
http://www.opednews.com/articles/There-s-Something-Happenin-by-Rob-Kall-111001-624.html

Something is happening!
I spoke to a new OEN volunteer-- she was at an "occupation" protest in Portland last night. Occupations are happening all over America. Unions are getting involved.

Writing this is giving me chills, as I think about the possibilities. People, average people, screwed people, out of work people, people betrayed by the legislators they voted for-- they're waking up to realize how badly they've been treated.

People are coming out into the streets because going into voting booths has not helped them. People are joining "occupation" protests because they've realized that things are getting so bad that they have to do something.

I'll be going to Freedom Square in Washington DC from Wednesday through Sunday. So will at least two other Opednews.com editors and many other writers, probably more like scores of us.

6. But why would I be in? If I am an Obama supporter and satisfied with the recovery?
I've got nothing to protest about. Obama's "got this."

11. Oh, please.
There are plenty Obama supporters who understood and still understand that "Yes We Can" means "Yes WE Can". We've never relegated the whole thing to Obama alone, expecting him to do alone what we are supposed to be doing together. It's "We", not "He".

12. So you want this Occupy Wall Street to be against Barack Obama?
You want them to be like another Tea Party?

Are you saying that the folks there all only represent you, and that want the Republicans to win?
Cause I've been supporting the notion of the group which Occupies Wall Street....
So are you saying that I shouldn't support them because they want this President to lose
the upcoming elections and I don't?

Why wouldn't you want this to be aimed at Wall Street, and Corporations?
Or are you just "using" this Protest in order to morph it with your own displeasure of Obama,
and to make this movement against him?

19. Those are all loaded questions.
I'm just pointing out that the recovery is underway and that the Obama administration has tried to do things to deal with a lot of the complaints that the protesters have.
I wonder why a seemingly all liberal crowd of protesters is protesting without regard to how it looks.

It's not like a local protest like Wisconsin or Arizona. These are issues that the Federal Government deals with.

I'm merely pointing out that it looks like they're unhappy with the current leadership I can predict that footage of these protests is going to come back to haunt Obama supporters next year when it's aired endlessly in negative campaign commercials against Obama.

If I was running against him, I'd broadcast it on a loop all day and say look at all these people fed up with his failed policies.

I'm a businessman and I've done well under Obama so far. Even though he hasn't tackled a lot of the issues I think are important, I should vote to re-elect him. Seeing the protesters reminds me about the other issues that I think are important.

22. Here is a hint, not one you will get
if either party gets it soon... they will realize why they need to get beghind this. Alas this is not about EITHER party... but about systemic problems.

Good luck thinking this is about a party... or against the president... in a way it is... and against the house, the senate and a corrupted system. Big words i used there for partisans, I know.

8. I didn't know anything was happening in Portland.
I would have been there if I'd known, and if I'd been mobile.

Unfortunately, I spent the weekend in bed, unable to drive or do much of anything else.

9. It looks like Portland is in for the long haul, like everybody else
And it doesn't really get started there until October 6. So you get better and then go check them out.

10. We begin to Occupy Texas in 5 days.
It's a bit of a Ron Paul clusterfuck, but I'm in it to win it. I'll be there everyday I can pushing the arguments in a leftward direction. Overnight too.

17. Yes - and it's important to note that it's non-partisan.
The young people elected their president and now understand that it's not the individual - it's the system that is the problem.

I applaud them and will be joining them in Houston.

21. The protesters (whereever they be) have really won me over.

At first, it was just a blip on the radar that seemed small and I was doubtful there could be any meaningful success.

Then I was intrigued to see it grow, concerned for the marchers' welfare, and a bit hopeful that it could mean something.

Now, I am impressed and I support them. I worry that their messages are too diffuse and that the protesters may be co-opted as professional "organizers" hit the scene, but regardless they are already achieving a goal of having the larger public talk about the negative side of corporatism.
