According to WNBC (lead story on 6 PM news), FDNY checked out conditions at Zucotti Park based on growing crowds.

2. There was something earlier about the FDNY acting friendly
Honking and waving as they drove by Zucotti Park or something of that sort.

Firefighters aren't professionally required to act like thugs. It makes a difference.
