Cain wins another straw poll, sweeps GOP women's convention meeting in KC
Herman Cain is quickly becoming king of the straw poll.

Cain won another one today, coasting to an easy win in a survey taken by the National Federation of Republican Women meeting at Bartle Hall (in Kansas City).

The breakdown:

Herman Cain – 48.9%
Rick Perry – 14.1% Mitt Romney – 13.3%
Newt Gingrich – 12.5% Rick Santorum – 6.9%
Michele Bachmann – 1.4%
Ron Paul – 0.6%
Gary Johnson – 0.4% Jon Huntsman – 0.2%
Undecided – 1.8%

Cain won that big straw poll in Florida last week. Yesterday, he won TeaCon 2011, the first Midwestern Tea Party Convention, which drew about 1,000 people to Schaumburg, Ill., this weekend.

Cain was the only candidate to attend TeaCon, which is where he headed after leaving Kansas City.

4. This is gonna sound so cynical..
and probably really f'ed up....but I think they're playing the "we can do it too" game. The Dems had Hillary...the picked Sarah Palin and then Michele Bachmann. Neither of them worked out so well...

We elected Obama so now they have to put "their black guy" out in front to prove they're not racist. All while calling him a "real black man", or a "genuine black man". That's funny white guys deciding who's "genuine/really black". Reminds of the auction block...

But they aren't racist..right?

8. You're exactly right, they even steal our tactics and strategies.
But what do you expect from the party with ZERO ideas or solutions.

7. Well . . .
is there something else going on here? Is Mr. Cain speaking to Republican fears/desires? This is a genuine question. Maybe it's not all about skin color.

11. Well...
His tax plan is 9-9-9, he's convinced we will be under sharia law if we don't do something, he appears to have a strong dislike for Muslims--doesn't think they should be elected or work in the government, he thinks Chile has a bangin retirement/social security plan and would like to make ours just like theirs.

He also thinks Rick Perry is too liberal.

But if you want my honest opinion, there probably are some repubs/conservatives that genuinely like him, that being said far too many people are cheering a "real/genuine black man" to think it's anything but a whose guy is blacker contest. They'll discard him quick fast and in a hurry because he's kinda dumb.

19. There's something likable about Herman Cain ...
The fact that he is not a professional politician does not badly hurt him as many people in our nation are sick and fed up with politicians and the constant childish games that they play in Congress.

Many people feel that the majority of Republicans are racists and while I feel that a higher percentage of Republicans fit that picture than do Democrats, I feel that the Republicans dislike of liberal Blacks is being misconstrued as a hatred of all Blacks.

I know several Republicans who say they voted for Obama because they felt he would actually make a difference and change our political system for the better. He campaigned like an individual who could unite the country and his ideas were appealing and fresh. On this forum I read posts by some Democrats who are disappointed with Obama. Obviously Republicans have an even lower opinion of his performance. If indeed many Republicans did vote for Obama and feel that he didn't deliver on his promises, they may still be looking for a leader who will deliver actual change. The current field of Republican candidates obviously is failing to excite Republicans and they are still hoping that someone better will emerge.

The overwhelming majority of Americans of all parties want to see this recession end. I expect a lot of politicians are going to find themselves out of work after the next election and we will see a rash of new faces in Congress. The Republicans who are in office are just as vulnerable as the Democrats. Now is not a good time to be a career politician.

But realistically, the media will be looking for any opportunity to destroy Herman Cain. He probably will slip up shortly and his fifteen minutes of fame will end. He made a foolish statement about two thirds of Blacks being brainwashed. One or two more comments like that and he will be political history.

The Republicans love to run the next person who is in line and that candidate is Mitt Romney. Romney lacks charisma and can't generate any enthusiasm. If the economy shows even the slightest signs of improvement before the election, Obama should easily be able to defeat Romney.

At any rate, this election promises to be fascinating.

17. That is what they are doing
Already heard right wing nuts claiming Cain's winning straw polls proves they aren't racists. He may never win any real poll or the nomination, but they'll forever point to these straw polls to prove they aren't racists. You betcha.

13. I was switching through the channels this morning and heard a few
seconds of an interview. Some of the women were very unhappy with the other candidates not showing up. "A huge sign of disrespect", one woman said. She looked supremely pissed.

21. Maybe they've heard the urban legend about black guys
And voted for him because of that?

Seriously, is he any better for women than Perry or Romney?
