Honest, it's not bribing NYPD; it's a "donation"
A recent announcement by J P Morgan Chase Press Release from Morgan Chase

I'll quote the item before it gets "lost"
New York City Police Foundation — New York

JPMorgan Chase recently donated an unprecedented $4.6 million to the New York City Police Foundation. The gift was the largest in the history of the foundation and will enable the New York City Police Department to strengthen security in the Big Apple. The money will pay for 1,000 new patrol car laptops, as well as security monitoring software in the NYPD's main data center.

New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly sent CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon a note expressing "profound gratitude" for the company's donation.

"These officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe," Dimon said. "We're incredibly proud to help them build this program and let them know how much we value their hard work."

3. I still wonder what the shareholders think about this.
$4+ million donated from I'm assuming the bottom line to a police agency. Personally I don't think a bankster will do anything out of the goodness in their heart. So how was it sold to the shareholders? On who's authority was it given?

4. Unrec'd
The implication is that Chase, alone, has a special relationship with the NYPD, alone and seperate from the City Government.

1. Why would Chase care? Their offices aren't in Lower Manhattan; they're on Park Avenue in Midtown.

2. What about all the other banks and financial institutions being protested that haven't given to the Police Foundation?

3. If this was true, why has the NYPD only cracked down on marches having nothing to do with Wall Street (Union Square and the Brooklyn Bridge) and where protestors, rightly or wrongly, were marching in the street without a permit? If Chase wanted a crackdown on the protestors why not at Zucotti Park?

The allegations against "Wall Street" have nothing to do with the Laws of the City of New York; they are subject to State and Federal prosecution. The NYPD's role is to enforce the laws of the City, which include not disrupting normal traffic and pedestrian flow unreasonably. I'm not making any comments on the behavior or tactics of the Police, but I don't believe in searching to conspiracies that aren't there.

5. lol - Seriously?
And here is where the truth comes out doesn't it? Behind all the donations and so forth ...

These protestors, whether they have been herded on to the Brooklyn Bridge or are meeting in Peoria, have very clearly stated that they are against the status quo and particularly the role of the financial arena in bankrupting our country. They don't have to be sitting in Chase's lobby to be a threat - they are a threat no matter where in the country they are sitting if they are able to make this much noise and attract enough police to arrest 700 of them.

It may not be a bribe in legal terms, but it definitely is a sign from the ruling class that they are in charge of this country (including the military and police protecting them). In fact I saw it as more of a threat than a bribe. YMMV.

6. It's a bribe...that's how the rich and powerful work...they expect something in
return...they're not the only ones, of course, but people have found about them so I give this a healthy REC!

7. In order
No indication of a "special relationship" just that Chase have, in their own words, donated an "unprecedented" sum to the NYPD. Other bankers probably do give large sums.

1) Chase care because they are bankers, dealers and market makers on Wall Street. Activities that "harm" Wall Street harm Chase.

2) The other banks and financial institutions probably have given large sums to NYPD, it is just that Chase saw fit to publicise the "unprecedented" sum they have given.

3) You say now that the other demonstrations have nothing to do with OWS? Even though the stated aim of these other demonstrations was to support OWS.

Whilst federal law covers, or more usually does not cover, the dubious activities of organisations like Chase the policing of the demonstrations falls squarely in the remit of the NYPD. If the OWS protest might have the effect of focusing politicians on the regulation of Chase and its cronies then Chase would like to see the demonstrations marginalised bt direct police action.
