20. I lived in Houston years ago (early '80's). The refinery fires
were scary, but this one is something else. Do they even know the chemical mix? I lived downwind of several chemical factories when living in Pgh. I had numerous migraines and that is probably why :-(.

2. Stay safe down there
but the fact that nobody is talking about any injuries yet is kind of frightening considering the toxic chemicals that are being used.

5. I know.

I am not a whizbangkid at chemicals, but was wondering if an explosion of the ammonia, sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric and phosphoric acids had the capacity to literally vaporize anyone that was in its path? That is why there isn't any injuries?

14. according to the fire chief
there was a 'reaction" between two chemicals...
They thought they had the fire under control...then there was another release of chemicals with "liquid fire"

29. I've been praying for that for weeks -
unfortunately the imaginary folks in the sky don't listen to me anymore than they listen to Rick Perry ...

Although when I do spend a few hours watering the lawn that seems to bring some showers, so I'll go back to that method. :)

25. without comment - letter printed in Waxahachie Daily Light yesterday
http://www.thedailylight.com/articles/2011/10/03/opinion/doc4e88d2774d654921602918.txt

There has been much in the news lately about how new EPA regulations will force Texas power plants to close. Power company operators and states have sued to stop implementation of the new regulations. In that litigation, the EPA has recently disclosed that it will hire 230,000 new employees at an estimated cost of $21 billion annually, in order to process all the extra paperwork required by the new regulations.

That cost does not include the economic impact of the regulations themselves -- such as the higher utility costs we in Texas will end up paying.

In short, Obama and the “greenniks” are about to cost us another $21 billion in taxes every year as well as higher electric bills

This is irrational even in good times, but especially so at a time when the economy is in the tank, unemployment is high, and we are laying off school teachers.

Bob Rader,

Oak Leaf
