5. I am an Italian citizen and I was disgusted by the attitudes by some
on DU against Italy and Italians in general...
Amanda got off simply because of the PR and political pressures. This despite the eyewitness, a homeless guy, who saw her and her boyfriend at 8:30 p.m. in the basketball court near the apartment at the same time they were supposedly in a different place. This despite dear Amanda and Raffaele buying bleach. This despite Amanda accusing a poor immigrant of this crime.

If you disagree, you disagree. Please don't be sorry that I think this though. I might be on a jury some day.

Take it up with the Italian legal system, then.

31. A couple of points...
1. Buying bleach? I dont usually do my own laundry (most folks in NYC use services) but I have on occasion and have bought bleach to do it. I swear to you that none of those times involved covering up a killing.

2. You cite an eyewitness that said they were in the neighborhood at the time. Do you know how notoriously unreliable eyewitness testimony is? The innocence project here in the US is constantly getting convictions reversed from DNA evidence that is completely exculpatory and in each of those convictions there were one or more eyewitnesses fingering the innocent person.

I had some great coupons and bought a few bottles of bleach and some febreze.

I'm probably on a watch list for that...

12. You heard that from the US press perhaps
because if you read the Italian press and the British press and the French press and (insert country here) press, you probably would have gotten a different impression. NO ONE in the US media talked about the homeless guy who saw the two of them in a place and time where they said they were not. NO ONE in the US media discussed how she and Raffaele were desperately looking for shops selling bleach early in the morning.

And why did she accuse Mr. Lumumba????

Edited on Mon Oct-03-11 03:05 PM by MineralMan
On what are you basing your belief that she is guilty? Were you there? Did you sit through all the court activity. Or do you just know she's guilty because your intuition is never wrong? The court has decided. Case closed. ora basta!

20. I read the case facts in more outlets than just the U.S. media
Troy Davis got convicted on faultier evidence than this. In Amanda's case, there was an eyewitness, a homeless guy who saw the two of them near the apartment at 8:30 pm when they said they were watching a movie and using a computer in Raffaele's apartment, which computer forensics proved was not true.

Moreover, Amanda pointed her finger at Mr. Lumumba, an immigrant and her occasional employer, destroying his reputation (she was convicted for slander for this). Why would an innocent person do this?

And before you say I have no intimate knowledge of the Italian judicial system, I do.. a lot. And before you inevitably bring up the "Italians are corrupt" meme, no more so than cops in NOLA or NYC... In other words, you'll find bad apples everywhere, so glass houses/stones and all that.

Never mind. I though you had been in court all this time and listened to every bit of evidence. I guess you know no more than the rest of us.

24. You are the one implying Italian courts are corrupt

You seem to have a problem with the fact that an Italian court reached a verdict of not guilty.

So, tell us about the corruption of this court.

Good on Italian courts for admitting a mistake. Rarely happens in this country, as prosecutors never/rarely admit to mistakes, even when proven

You don't know shit.

This is really bogus and speaks terribly of DU.

So many are so quick to form an opinion based on zero facts. Pathetic.

Edited to say... my comment is not directed at the OP, but at the ridiculousness I'm seeing posted by so many cocksure people who have ZERO information from which to form an opinion.

Jesus God... so fucking stupid.
