Who will be the Republican candidate in 2016?
Edited on Mon Oct-03-11 07:12 PM by panader0
I don't believe that any of the current assortment of Repub contenders can win in 2012. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
(of course, we need to turn out the vote). Could any of the current candidates run again in 2016?
Is there an unknown up and comer who can win?
As I watch the media cover the entry (?) of Christie into the race, I just can't help but feel 'Is that all you got?'
Who will be the Democratic candidate?

2. Jeb
Been waiting for him for a long time; depending on what happens to repug party. I suspect we'll watch them implode for 2012, and thereafter they may go 'rational,' so someone like Jeb, Huntsman, others?

6. Jeb--the idea sends a shiver down my spine.
I thought he might jump in this year. The BFEE lives on!

the last minute when the Right realizes that they don't stand a chance in hell with their current field of idots's

12. Not if he's watching Perry flame out
He'd have the double liabilities of being Stupid's baby brother and being another damned Texan.

The 2016 race is going to be the most fun to watch if "it's his turn" Mittens fares ill and we know he will because they're going to tie some nutcase around his neck rather than pair him with someone remotely sensible (but wrong) like Huntsman. There is going to be a massive battle for that party between the lunatics and the money boys and the party might not survive it except as a local party.

22. Nope, Jebbie's got the same problem
as most GOP voters are finding out about Rick Perry, he's 'soft' on immigration. He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of running anytime in the next couple of decades.

5. I seriously think that one of the problems for the Repubs in 2012 is the TeaPartiers.
If they are still there in 2016 then I think that the Repubs will have difficulty mounting a candidate then as well. The TeaPartiers may turn out to be our greatest allies in that they are screwing with Repubs and dividing the vote.

11. Yes, for the time being; maybe into 2012 - hope so.
But they're doing all they can to tamper with the vote, by playing with State voting rules and voting machines; STILL trying to steal elections.

13. I agree, and that worries me the most. We are not going to get any semplence of
a fair election come Nov 2012 if the right has their way. We already know that 80% of the vote is counted on E-machines that do not provide any paper trail. These machine makers are Republican ie: ES&S and Diebold.

7. If he can lie his way out of his immigration ....
... positions, Perry will be the Republican candidate next year. And probably four years later.

15. It will be Romney and he stands the best chance to win...
The establishment isn't stupid. Remember this far out in the 2008 election cycle McCain was a has-been and was not even close to being considered a contender. But when the crazies started threatening to take over, common sense won out and what passed in those loony circles for the most "reasonable" man ended up with the nom. This time out, Romney is the one that most passes for reasonable (he's not).

24. There's only two ways that Romney is the 2016 nominee
The most obvious is if he wins the nomination in 2012, and then the general election.

The other is if he loses the nomination, and the economy goes into a further tailspin under Obama, or less likely, under Perry (who simply cannot outdebate Obama). Then, he can come back in either case with a, "See, I told you a real businessman was what it takes to get this country right again."

Four more years of economic malaise, and I think a majority of Americans will buy it.

16. The Great White Hope
Someone with the racial sensitivity of Theodore Bilbo; someone with the deficit cutting chops of Ronald Reagan; a conservative with the compassion of Torquemada; a patriot whose campaign will connect with regular Joes -- McCarthy and Goebbels; someone who will replace Obamacare with Mengelecare; someone who will cut unemployment with the slogan "arbeit macht frei".
