My stepfather is not dead - this is news to Aetna

My stepfather is a retired Sears employee. GREAT (unbelieveable) benefits package through Sears and Aetna. New knee, new hip, eye surgeries all in the time of people being dropped for going to Patient First too much.

BTW- he and my mother (sadly) are not one of US - they believe Fox News.

Their coverage was ended a few months ago and they couldn't figure out why.

Aetna rep: "We are sorry for your loss"
Mom: "What loss?"
Aetna: "Your husband's passing"
Mom:" He isn't dead! He is sitting right across the room from me"

It also turns out that Aetna thought that my stepfather has had surgery on three different eyes.

No kidding.

2. Similar thing happened to me. I got a notice from Medicare, iirc, that I was deceased.

A standard termination of coverage I think the are required to send out.

Fortunately, I worked at the Public Health Department at the time. Walked upstairs to Vital Records with the notice and said "Rosemary, I'm dead."

Turned out there was an older man with the exact same name as mine, living in the same small town. Guess no one at Medicare thought to compare dates-of-birth, etc. She was able to cut through the red tape and get it cleared the same day...

Go figure. Pays to open those notices.

3. One of the credit agencies thinks I dead

My Credit Union is used to the false reports by now. However, it would be hard to buy a new car...
