Poll question: Obama Blasts Bank of America Debit Fee-where is DU on this issue?
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 02:23 PM by bobthedrummer
Below is today's CNBC article by John Carney reporting our President's attack on BoA's new
$5 a month fee for it's debit cardholder's (in addition to all the other "rules" that apply to THOSE TOO BIG TO FAIL).

On this one single point, debit user fees- I'm against any debitcard user fee in any marketplace anywhere. I never activated my Credit Union's debit card.

Where are you at on this small point, DU?

1. With all the anti-debit user fees posted here when it was announced ...
I'd say we're against it.

3. A few months ago, there was a poll in my local paper
(Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) about what monthly ATM fee a bank should charge! The only options were $2.00,$3.00, $4.00, $5.00 - no option for "no fee". I think the question was worded "What monthly fee would you be willing to pay for your ATM card?)I'm sure this idea has been in the works for years.

Economies of scale are as regular as the elimination of bodily waste that human beings and
corporations (under Citizens United ruling) share...

5. Against the Fee, But BoA has every right to charge it and drive off customers
I bailed on bank of American awhile back because of their role in the current financial crisis and their lack of customer service and concern. Much happier banking with USAA.

7. That's my position too
A debit card is, in the end, a service that a bank provides, and they have a right to charge for their services. Whether I choose to continue to use their services is another matter.

9. Actually, whenever I had a problem at Bank of America,
I always had excellent customer service. That is one reason I have stayed with them. But if this debit card fee is enacted, I may just look for another bank.

8. just as churches pass the plate endlessly. BofA has the right to pass the plate. When you get sick
of the endless pimping for higher "fees" there are other options available ....for both churches and "banks"

10. just shut that bank down already
the whiff of desperation is so strong... this will be a lot more orderly if it is shut down rather than it going kaboom on its own

BoA is bad enough but it also owns Countrywide, the fraud-related liabilities of which may alone be enough to bring down BoA, and Morgan Stanley, which is appearing to be the next Lehman Brothers.

11. BoA is simply anticipating the expected law requiring debit cards for those without Direct Deposit.

I recommend it.
