Source: Sears leaders visit Ohio, Texas for possible relocation
CHICAGO (WLS) - One of Illinois' largest employers is moving forward in its search for a potential new home.

A number of states have courted Sears Holding Corp., but sources tell WLS Radio Sears executives have done site visits in Columbus, Ohio and Austin, Texas.

Sears leaders are said to have met with economic development representatives, top gubernatorial staff and area business leaders from each state who have expressed interest in the company relocating any or all of its corporate staff.

"We have received offers from a number of states and recently conducted site visits and facility tours at a pair of them," Sears spokesman Chris Braithwaite confirmed.

1. this is what has become of business in America
no loyalty to the city they have been in and the whoring by states to attract them. The states that are whoring are doing nothing to help America only themselves. This is why the republican view of business is so bad. This is local and not national in scope. We need national and not local in scope.

4. Not only that (although I agree completely) but ...
... the state/city that "wins" isn't going to be any better off. They will end up shoveling money into this company until they decide to move again (or declare bankruptcy).

2. The minute that governments and people learn that all of this state-to-state moving is a grand game

robbing Peter to pay Paul, and that even though it may help the state, in the long run the whole country suffers......things will get better.

5. Sears will be bankrupt in 5 years
or less. I bet there's some serious planning going on to stiff the former union workers in Illinois--including several of my relatives. :evilfrown:

6. Moving Jobs is not the same as creating jobs.
One of the current games gov.s play is to spend HUGE bucks trying to get businesses to move to their state. But this is NOT job creation. It is simply moving jobs - on a national level (which when we talk about high unemployment it is a national issue) this does nothing. Except cost tax payer money (trying and often failing) to lure companies to move) and the cost of relocation (some ate by the companies some ate, again by taxpayers.) This is a game that has dramatically negative effects on employees. Shame on Sears!
