GOP to Unemployed: "Tough Shit"
Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 04:27 PM by Playinghardball
Source: Rolling Stone
By Tim Dickinson

The obstructionist Republican senate minority is blocking an extension of unemployment benefits, through the filibuster of one Jim Bunning of Kentucky, whose state is mired in 10.7 percent unemployment. When Jeff Merkel of Oregon beseeched his colleague on the Senate floor to consider the impact on Americans hit hardest by this recession, Bunning blurted out: "Tough Shit.

2. That's their attitude toward everything
And sadly, I know of very few people (offline) who disagree with them.

However, I hadn't yet heard about this so it's news to me, and NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE THEN AND IT ALWAYS PAYS TO REMEMBER. :/

5. Mercifully, Bunning has entered his long-overdue retirement.
However, the seat is now occupied by Rand Paul (and his rug :P ), so same shit, different asshole. :eyes:

6. Bunning is gone.
Succeeded (or failed) by Rand Paul. Article is from March 2010.

They misspelled Merkley.

7. It is like 'tough shit' is what the Bush White House wanted Americans
Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 06:14 PM by applegrove
to feel about the Katrina victims who didn't evacuate. But Americans reacted with outright anger at that callousness. But now, with the jobless, the GOP has its anti-empathy moment. That connection with the poor, born out of the depression era in the 1930s, has been undone. Which is what the gop has wanted for two generations.
