Rep. Slaughter calls for ‘retroactive recusal’ to overturn Citizens United

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) told Current TV’s Keith Olbermann Tuesday that a “retroactive recusal” of Justice Clarence Thomas could result in overturning the Citizens United case.

Earlier this year, the liberal group Common Cause argued that both Justices Thomas and Antonin Scalia should have recused themselves from the Citizens United case because they attended events organized billionaire Charles Koch.

In addition, Thomas’ wife, Virginia Thomas, may have received financial benefit from the Citizens United ruling, something that was never disclosed by the justice.

1. Nice idea, but it will never happen...
Not with this lame-ass Congress.

2. Has such a thing ever happened?
Not to mention, NEVER look to Thomas to do the right or ethical thing.

All I want to know is how much porn he keeps in his office at the SC and how much at home. Becoming a justice has never cured porn addiction that I ever heard.

5. Be careful what you ask for.
they better make sure that the other side cannot use this tactic to undermine rulings we favor. How far back can ‘retroactive recusal’ go? Are we handing the RW a weapon to undermine every major civil rights ruling since the 60's?

8. The Republicans will use whatever tactic they can dream up, legal or not, ethical or not,
and it doesn't make any difference whether the Democrats do it or not first.

12/12/00 and the past decade has proven whether they control the executive, judicial or legislative bodies of government they simply don't give a rat's ass about any sort of precedent or lack thereof.

They would do this now if they could simply because the idea has been brought up whether it turns out to be successful or not.

Having said that I believe there are quite a few people in the business community that believe the Citizens United decision was a Constitutional and real world implication wise disaster.
