1984 Apple Macintosh Commercial
I still think this is one of the best ads ever put to film.

2. Is that the overblown, over-praised 1984 knockoff?
I tend not to click on YouTube links.

3. yes, and it each their own.
I love it. :)

Especially, since at the time, Apple was considered to be a joke, to even think about competing with Windows.

6. Windows was a cheap copy of the Macintosh OS derived from Apple copy of the Xerox interface.
There would not have been MS windows if Jobs had not given Gates a pre production Macintosh. In the end and with flare Jobs won.

7. Eh, not really

The first mac came out in Jan '84, windows 1.0 came out in Sep 85. Windows was talked about as far back as Sept '81.

It usually takes more then a year for software development.

Unbelievably, two different people working in two different locations, can have the same idea.

9. Yeah really. The Apple Lisa was running Beta in 1979.
The idea that somehow Microsoft Windows led the world to GUI is a delusion. Gates who is a great success at emulating the success of others depends on a decade delay emulating the ideas and markets of Steve Jobs. He got there and in many cases seized the market.

10. And the idea that jobs gave the world the GUI is a delusion

Jobs stole the idea from xerox.

Jobs was great at taking the ideas of others and making boutique items.

11. As I said Xerox showed it to Jobs and is where he got the idea.
There has been a lot of debate over the years why Xerox shared a viewing with Jobs they had to suspect what he would do. Rumors at the time they even gave him programming code. Jobs was naive enough to think Gates was going to support the Mac Operating System fair enough that Microsoft did not. At least Jobs over the years came up with (pricey) hardware that worked and his marketing was brilliant. Steve Jobs got the last laugh he may not have invented it but he did it with class. I remember Mr. Jobs from 1976.

:hi:

14. eh, Linux is better
Edited on Thu Oct-06-11 03:34 PM by Confusious
I don't have to bow to the whims of a corporate giant.

I am not a fanatical fan boy (repeating myself?) though. It needs more ease of use to make it big, or bigger as the case may be.

Jobs even thought unix was better, basing OSX on the BSD kernel. So you have to give him props for being a smart man, though he had other, less admirable, qualities.
