#OccupyWallStreet UPDATE: NYPD are trapping masses of people and pepper spraying them right now.

Read more: http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution

I saw this one earlier "nypd is brutalizing a group that left liberty plaza to march through wall street"

The Steve Jobs News preempted the coverage that would have shown this live since they were covering the protests earlier today.

1. Their brutality only strengthens the cause, and the need for REAL CHANGE
It shows that they're scared. The status quo isn't going to go down easily.

14. My concern is the escalation
I do not advocate this, but it is a wonder that the "white shirts" aren't on the receiving end of some spray themselves. It is a credit to the protestors that there has not been major in-kind retaliation.

21. The protestors have been remarkably patient -
and each time the NYPD does this more people join them. You'd think they'd get a clue ...

16. I don't fear much on my own account, but I do fear that Americans slept too long.
Edited on Thu Oct-06-11 12:07 AM by No Elephants
If Americans ever did more than demonstrate peacefully, I believe we'd be mowed down like weeds, without a lot of hesitation.

And I doubt political parties of those in charge would matter much.

I don't fear much on my own account, but I do fear that Americans slept too long.

3. I find this incredibly stupid...they lit fuses spraying others and the BB fiasco...
now they do it again?

:wtf:

They are making the Occupy movement stronger w/every incident. The BB fiasco drew thousands into the movement and new cities have been Occupied since then.

I'm all for Occupying, I just don't want people hurt. Whomever is ordering this crap is an idiot and should be relieved from duty, or if Bloomberg, tossed out on his ass. This is like throwing gas on a smoldering fire and figuring it will fizzle out. NYPD whiteshirts are nuts if they think this is "helping". Here in Boston, the BPD and Occupy people have gotten along quite well, neither feel threatened and as long as it stays that way, Occupy Boston will go incident free.

Money talks again. It buys the police.

20. This is normal, to be expected, and definitely ENDURED
As Gandhi put it:

First they ignore you,
Then they laugh at you,
Then they fight you,
Then you win.

We've got to endure beyond the fighting part.

22. Report of possible agents provocateurs:
"There were definitely some people who wanted to push through the barricades, but we peacefully remained in place for about 20 minutes. A few guys that I've never seen before were really agitating for us to break through. A few other people that I know, were considering it and we were trying to get an assembly together to try to figure out what our next move would be. At this point, the two guys that I've never seen before were the first to push into the barricades that were directly in front of about 50 police officers, and the instant that happened, pepper-spray was fired all over the place and the cops were swing their batons wildly.

I managed to get some footage of it on my flipcam, I will post some later, but I got some pepper-spray in my left eye and got pushed and shoved around so the footage is messy. Journalist Luke Rudkowski, from We Are Change, was directly to my right and he did an amazing job of getting footage, despite being pepper-sprayed and hit with a baton. I have to give major respect to Luke. His coverage of the protests from Day 1, and every single day since, has been among the best we've had. He's fearless."
