Time for protesters to start thinking of a NAME for the movement?
The tea party didn't have a name when it started. It became the tea party later on.

So......this movement should have a name, shouldn't it? OWS (Occupy Wall Street) is a name for a protest, but not a name for an entire movement, I think.

6. Occupy Wall Street embodies the movement. Wall Street
holds the power in this country and dictates
the rules.

For example, the last few monthes Wall Street
Members and especially Ratings Agency Members
have been on Fox Business Network proclaiming
loud and clear they want HCR repealed(Moodys)
and they want 4 Billion in Deficit Reduction.
Does anyone think it is a coincidence 4 Billion
in Deficit Reduction is being considered by
the President and Congress.

Who is really pushing Deficit Reduction???
Sure the Republicans brought it up. Who pays
for Republican elections. Who put money behind
the Tea Party???

The Protestors probably understand how the system
is rigged as much as the next one.

My point is give them OWS time. Things are
evolving as they grow. Wall St is the heart
of the problem and they were smart enought to
figure this out from day one. Markets Rule
but Markets may not always be right.

8. OWS is not going to look or sound like the political campaigns we're used to,
which are crafted by corporate PR professionals to roil out well on CNN.

OWS is not a top down organization. They are not trying to get a slot on MSNBC.

I suspect that this process will be pretty uncomfortable for a lot os us because we're used to having two or three buttons pressed on a schedule to get our attention and this isn't that.

But I also suspect this will be really good for us because if we engage it at any level, we will have to crawl out of the box we think in to tolerate our corporate culture and learn something about difference, about equality and about tolerance -- the very ideas that glossy corporate crap tries so desperately to erase.

9. This is very exciting. This could actually become a movement. A real
movement with political power. Even if many don't protest, many will listen and agree.

10. People see that it very obviously works, that there is a successful model not only for protesting
but perhaps a better way to organize, a better way of living and sharing and voting. In this it has already planted seeds and changed minds. It has already made a difference and will continue to do so! :hi:

how old are we? I'd be about 6 before my brain was trained onto a corporate schedule. lol :)

13. Oooh good post. I mentioned this yesterday
in a thread that was talking about the "list of demands". I don't want to see any damn lists or any leaders or any organization. I want to see more people demanding more power for themselves not for some political party.

It's a shame that the things I see as strong points in OWS, like no particular organization, no party affiliation, no specific demands, are the things many have been complaining about. I saw many posts here the day this started making fun of the protesters for the exact things I have mentioned. Talking about how without demands and affiliations and organization this is just a waste of time. I wonder how those posters feel now...

talking about social justice movements that have used horizontality as their M.O. for the last decade or so, beginning with Argentina. I was completely shamed to realize I didn't know squat about them. I believe it was this segment:

12. "Wall Street" is a term in vernacular like "Main Street." It's not a place, it's a class of people.
OWS is fully appropriate, globally. It contrasts the capitalist class from the consumer class. And makes no real distinction with the "petite-bourgeoisie," which was unquestionably the most destructive concepts to enter theory.

own best interests.
