UW research on drunk Facebook pics
UW research on drunk Facebook pics

Glance at college students' Facebook pages and its obvious which ones like to party and drink. There's a UW study that looked at the public photos and determined Facebook pages can be an early indicator of which students are at risk for alcohol dependence and abuse.

Researchers found that students who had pictures or posts about getting drunk or blacking out were more likely to be at risk of drinking problems. That seems obvious, but students who merely mentioned alcohol or drinking weren't as likely to be substance abusers as those who actually put up drinking photos.

Dr. Megan Moreno from the University of Wisconsin-Madison led a team of researchers from her university and the University of Washington. They looked at public photos and posts of 224 undergrads.

2. I make my FB page private for a reason.
I don't want somebody seeing a picture and making a judgement of my entire life. And now that I have to approve all "tags" on FB, I would never approve a picture that might be misconstrued.

10. One of the few benefits of being old
is that we were able to make complete fools of ourselves before the arrival of the internet and digital cameras. There was the little problem of Polaroid pictures, but they usually disappeared long before the hangover did.

12. Why would anyone post a photo of him or herself
on Facebook in such a compromising situation? I was pretty stupid in my 20s sometimes, but never stupid enough to do that. And I wouldn't have posted photos of anyone else, either. It seems to me that anyone who does this to him or herself is too stupid to work for anyone in the first place. Truly.
