Pizza delivery guy calls cops on customer who smoked marijuana
Heads up to all Patients out there....
Police will and have used any excuse to go after Cannabis Users...

AURORA - A man says he got much more than a large pizza when he called Papa John's for delivery - he got a visit from Aurora Police.

The man was smoking medical marijuana just before the pizza arrived on Friday evening. The delivery driver smelled the marijuana and called the cops. The Papa John's employee, who was not identified, was concerned because the customer's 9-year-old daughter was in the house.

Officers performed a child welfare check and left without filing any charges.

The man who ordered the pizza, Frederick Smith, contacted 9NEWS because he says he was targeted for doing something that's perfectly legal in Colorado.

"I wanted to be able to use medical marijuana and not feel harassed," Smith said.

Smith has a medical marijuana card. He says a doctor prescribed the drug for chronic pain he suffered in a bicycle accident.

5. Ain't that the truth!
What do you expect, though? The owner of that Shit-Pizza franchise is a dyed in the wool Republican.

See his contributions, here--one tiny bone to the D (so he can claim he has given to both sides), the rest is R all the way:

This would NEVER have happened back in the 70s. The pizza delivery man would have been high or invited in to get high! I shit you not.

This is beyond ridiculous. The pizza guy should be named! Why is he being protected? Fucking narc.

30. Last week I was talking to a retired Chicago cop about the acceptance of drugs in the '70s.

While the crime rate was higher, he said it was a lot less scary before the War On Drugs. He said the cops didn't give much thought to their safety for a routine traffic stop. What were the odds of pulling someone over and seeing a body or a kidnap victim in the car?

The odds of stumbling upon a cache of drugs, however, is much greater. In the '70s, nobody cared, so the cop was safe. Now, the enforcement and punishment are harsh enough that sensible cops pray they don't pull over someone with drugs since that could put a cop's life in jeopardy.

Baking it into brownies or cookies would not have risked giving a 9-year-old a contact high.

19. Obtuse much?
No, because Mr. Smith could have instructed the kid to stay out of the cookies or brownies because they were spiked with a medical component for pain.

Exposing children to any kind of smoke is just ignorant, medical marijuana or not.

39. I have a 2.5 year old son and I have a license as well
I have a MMJ license. And my only rule? Smoke it outside. Hot or cold, it doesn't matter.

My son does not even know I smoke, and my wife does, but with a lot of frustration, trying to keep my smoking down.

Right now, she's on a real "vacation" - I cannot smoke here for 3 weeks. NYS has not passed a MMJ law, and even if it did, it will probably not accept a Colorado license.

I know for sure that only very few states allow out of state licenses. I think Delaware happens to be one, and I'll be heading down there next week on my way to Maryland, which is a MMJ state, but not accepting out of state licenses.

31. Seriously?
Is it that hard to imagine Mr. Smith baking two batches; one batch plain for the kid and one with the pain control baked in?

I'm only going to say all of this once:

I was raised for most of my childhood by a widowed mother who had several OCDs. One was compulsive gambling, one was alcoholism, and one was smoking like a goddamn chimney. Just tobacco, but let me tell you that for about ten years of my life I was suffering from bronchitis and other breathing problems two to four times per year, every year, and was generally miserable. And don't hand me the line about pot smoke being safer than tobacco because particulates in a child's lungs are particulates in a child's lungs and I don't give a shit what the source is.

I support free and open use of medical marijuana for anyone who suffers chronic pain. After having gone through a living hell for nearly two years with narcotic pain pills and patches for severe frozen shoulder syndrome, I know how horrible the physical and mental addictions are, as well as the other side effects like constipation to the point where you are literally trying to shit bricks. I'm still in pain much of the time -- though thankfully down to a dull roar as compared to three years ago -- and now that I'm officially disabled but uninsured I'm pretty much up shit creek without a paddle unless and until I can afford the several hundred dollars I would need to get myself a medical marijuana permit. I hope to someday, but I will have the basic common sense to not expose my wife, roommate, or myself to nasty fucking smoke. Vaporizer or fat free snacks will be my delivery method, just like it should have been for Mr. Smith, given the presence of a child in the home.

Why the hell is this so hard to understand?

49. cannabis smoke opens airwaves
and has been used to treat asthma for centuries. even being a heavy smoker does not lead to decreased lung capacity. the Tashkin study at UCLA which has since been reproduced, found that lung capacity was slightly higher for pot smokers than it was for non smokers and way higher than it was for tobacco smokers, cancer rates were also found to be slightly lower for pot smokers than non smokers and far lower for pot smokers than for tobacco smokers. i smoke a lot of pot and can ride my mountain bike 18 miles distance and a mile up in elevation in 2 hours 10 minutes, i challange you to find a tobacco smoker who can do the same.

61. Actually....yes...
it's a real problem with kids. You can tell a kid not to eat a brownie or cookie and to them it sounds like, "you should eat these".

There have been quite a few stories here about little kids getting into their parents "special batch". The unfortunate thing about it is, when these people take their kids to the emergency room, social services get called and many times the children are removed. It's not a made up problem. It's a real problem.

And particulates maybe particulates. But they put a lot of extremely harmful stuff in cigarettes that isn't found in marijuana i.e. formaldehyde, etc.

50. odor is different than thc vapor
the vapor of the thc travels much shorter distances than the odor, plus it would take a lot of smoke in a room to get a contact high, i smoke weed around my kid but i do not clam bake the room, sometimes i will take a hit from a pipe while we are at the table (daddy's after dinner pipe) but i dont blow the smoke at her. From the numerous scientific studies i have read i am not harming my daughter in any way.

i smoke around my daughter and i have never seen her have a contact high, i have a 2 room place, her bedroom and i sleep in the kitchen living room, i smoke near my window but the odor can fill the house whilst most or all the smoke goes out the window.

plus it is perfectly legal and acceptable for adults to smoke tobacco around kids so why call the cops because someone ripped a couple of hits off a bowl????

people are too uppity in the usa, here in france people smoke weed and hash in public as if it were legal, i sometimes smoke while picnicing with my 3 year old with me and i have never had anyone around me say anything or call the cops,

hell when i was younger one of our dealers was a pizza delivery guy.....

I used to deliver pizzas too, for the Papa as well as other chains and local businesses. I think this was just a case of a party-pooping driver. For every one of these guys at Papa John's, there's probably 2 or 3 who would have requested a hit from the bong, and hundreds more who wouldn't have cared either way.

16. Papa John's Bankruptcy Stops Paychecks for Many Employees

When a company files for bankruptcy, employees often worry about the future viability of their jobs. Uncertainty surrounding the fate of the company after bankruptcy can lead to stressful times for loyal workers.

Most employees, though, assume that a bankruptcy filing will not prevent them from receiving their latest paychecks.

The employees of a major franchisee of the Papa John's pizza chain, however, recently discovered that their paychecks have been put on hold while the owner goes through Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

PJCOMN Acquisition Corp., which owns more than 70 Papa John's franchises, recently filed for bankruptcy, according to the Denver Post.

Sources indicate that financial confusion within the company led to checks being withheld or simply bouncing for more than 1,000 Papa John's employees in Colorado and Minnesota.

Back in the day during the late 1970s we'd sit around my house, smoke up and order a pizza so that its arrival coincided with the start of Sunday night's local PBS channel stoner bloc of two Monty Python episodes followed by The Prisoner. Sometimes I'd give him a couple beers for a tip.

I work in the medical marijuana industry in Colorado, and this was in my inbox this a.m.

Cannabis Victim Gets Free Pizza
Sexy Pizza Donates Pies to Victim of Papa John's

DENVER — Oct. 6, 2011 — In the wake of a foolish act by a Papa John’s Pizza delivery driver who attempted to send a family man to jail for smoking medical marijuana within the legal confines of his home, Denver-based Sexy Pizza is offering the victim a free pizza per month until voters decide a 2012 Colorado marijuana regulation initiative.

Aurora, Colo. resident Frederick Smith will receive a free pizza per month from Sexy Pizza, 1018 E. 11th Ave., until Colorado voters decide a 2012 ballot initiative that would regulate the recreational simple possession of marijuana across Colorado. If voters back the proposal, Sexy Pizza will provide Smith with a free pizza per month for life.

“It’s so amazing that there are people and a business out there that wants to be a friend to the movement, as opposed to drawing a line in the sand and saying we’re on the good side and you’re on the bad side, which is exactly what Papa John’s did,” explained Smith, who says he is anxiously awaiting his free pizzas.

The story has already made national headlines because of its absurd nature. Mr. Smith, minding his own business after a long night of work last Friday, Sept. 30th, put his 9-year-old daughter into the bath and then carefully — out of the reach and eyesight of his child — proceeded to take his medical marijuana. After ordering a pizza, the doorbell rang. The unnamed pizza delivery driver smelled marijuana, saw some kids play equipment around the house, and then called police for a child welfare check. But upon investigation, police found that the delivery driver couldn’t have been any more wrong. Smith was found to be an astounding father. Officers even apologized to him for the trauma he and his child were exposed to at the hands of the Papa John’s delivery driver.

“We want to make it clear that there is nothing wrong with medical marijuana,” explained Kayvan S.T. Khalatbari, owner of Sexy Pizza and a friend to the medical cannabis movement. “This man was simply living his life, legally and in his own home, when Papa John's decided to question his rights, waste our city's resources and attempt to ruin a perfectly good relationship between pizza and marijuana."

Khalatbari himself is no stranger to the medical cannabis industry. He is the co-owner of Denver Relief, one of Denver’s original and most vibrant medical marijuana centers. Khalatbari knows how important medical cannabis is to a patient’s health, and through Sexy Pizza, donations are made to cannabis advocacy groups such as SAFER, Sensible Colorado and the Medical Marijuana Assistance Program of America (MMAPA). Three pizzas have been dedicated to the groups, and every time one is sold, the groups get $1.

“It’s time to put an end to the discrimination of cannabis users,” says Khalatbari. “Progress is being made so that people like Frederick aren’t made victim to ill-conceived notions"

They get props for supporting MMJ patients.

Just showed my wife this article and she said we should try that pizza place.

My wife said Papa Johns was "meh" - when she likes Marco's Pizza at Northfield (closest franchise to us)

I'll send 'em an e-mail and let them know.

42. Soon to be ex-pizza delivery person, I imagine...
I've delivered pizzas. I don't think there was ever a day I didn't smell marijuana at some customer's house. Sometimes I'd have a big order, five or six large pizzas, and the smoke would billow out the customer's door.

The police in the town where I now live would probably think it was a prank call if a pizza delivery guy called to say he smelled marijuana.
