Guess I'll be losing another Facebook friend...
Posted to my page by a "friend".It was from out of the blue and I guess in response to several of my earlier posts. I do tend to celebrate diversity whenever possible. :bounce:

"If they would just "come out" and "shut up"...it wouldn't be so bad....but they spend the rest of their lives "convincing" others, when they might not have themselves "convinced"...their life style, etc. is between them and God, just like it is with me....just saying.....there, I "came out and said" what I've been wanting to say....nuf sed....".

Well, I certainly didn't think there'd been 'nuf said so here's my responding comment:

"Rather a broad brush there, but you're entitled to your own opinion. I think that those who have been discriminated against have the right and the responsibility to work toward changing society's bigotry (think Women's Rights and Civil Rights).I support "all men are created equal" which implies that they should be treated equally as well. Lifestyle choices is one thing, but this isn't about making a choice any more than having brown eyes or being 6 feet tall is a choice. And "shutting up" is not an option...not as long as bigots like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Pat Robertson, Glenn Beck, et al are permitted to spew their venom across the airways to those who have neither the brains nor the fortitude to think for themselves. Just saying...."

I feel good.

2. Well, I sort of do too.
But it's at least one way to get the message across to those who wouldn't otherwise hear it. We're preaching to the choir most of the time here on DU.

Oh well, this too shall pass. :hi:

9. facebook friends
I had a posting the other day that equated the American soldier dying in our wars to Jesus Christ. The sign that wss posted was very disturbing, but I ignored it. When I have something that might offend some of my "friends" I send a private message.

4. I post links to important political stories on my FB page. What I DON'T do is
go onto somebody else's wall to start up a political fight, lol.

15. I do find myself doing that
I just know that with 200+ friends, they don't all have the same views I do and I would prefer to not start an uninvited fight with them. No, when one of them does it, I will feel free to lay into them :)

5. Good response
Not to mention that you don't hear about young straight men killing themselves in despair over their sexual orientation. It's really easy for the non-oppressed to dictate to the oppressed how they "should" feel or conduct themselves. It's less easy to sit down with them as a witness to their oppression.

7. "Just come out and shut up"? Ok...
...Meanwhile, if I had a nickel for every time someone who recently "discovered Christ" preached and repeatedly "witnessed" to every bleedin' person they know and come in contact with, I'd be a rich man.

8. I rarely talk about politics on FB,
but I must admit I put a link to an Occupy site up today, with the comment "for those who are interested". It's personal preference I guess - I use FB to keep up with mostly old friends and family. Some people use it other ways ...

12. I'm finding out just what a lot of my "friends" stand for there.
It's mostly those whom I really don't know very well but have connected with me because we come from the same area. Maybe they're really more like "acquaintances". :eyes:

10. Excellent response.
Unfortunately sometimes we have to respond to the drivel that spills over the dam, so to speak.
Remaining quiet about something like that lets the learning moment pass untouched.
Carpe diem, I say.
If they get angry about it, they weren't really your friend anyway, not much.

13. Thank you for saying what needs to be said.
Not speaking out in support of these things condones and enables further bigotry. :hi:
