Associated Press: Wall Street protesters fed up with both parties

Wall Street protesters fed up with both parties
By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press
October 6, 2011

Their chief target is Wall Street, but many of the demonstrators in New York and across the U.S. are also thoroughly disgusted with Washington, blaming politicians of both parties for policies they say protect corporate America at the expense of the middle class.

"At this point I don't see any difference between George Bush and Obama. The middle class is a lot worse than when Obama was elected," said John Penley, an unemployed legal worker from Brooklyn.

"He could have taken a much more populist, aggressive stance at the beginning against Wall Street bonuses, and exacting certain change from bailing out the banks," said Michael Kazin, a Georgetown University history professor and author of "American Dreamers," a history of the left. "But ultimately, the economy has not gotten much better, and that's underscored the frustration on both the right and the left."

In Zuccotti Park, the center of the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York, activists expressed deep frustration with the political gridlock in Washington. While some blamed Republicans for blocking reform, others singled out Obama.

5. exactly.
And now Pelosi and Obama are "praising" them, while not bothering to mention, or do anything about, the rampant police brutality that OWS has encountered nationwide, including in Pelosi's district.

3. They're justifiably fed up with the status-quo and politics--as-usual offered by the 2 party system.

9. They're right - on economic issues there are no differences.
On social issues we still have a few things to point to ..

12. Obama's jobs bill is really moderately conservative.
To listen to corporate media and the Wall Street puppets you would think Che Guevara and Lenin now occupy the White House. The Republican Party has gone so far right on economic policy they are off the charts. While they have the attention of Washington some politician's (other than the loon Ron Paul) need start a dialog with the increasingly disenfranchised 99%.

15. Can't say that I blame them. Mr. Obama and the Dems are
missing a great opportunity here and they choose to ignore these people; act like they don't exist. Mr Obama waited way too long to comment on this movement. Not to mention that they are absolutely right about both sides protecting corporate America at the expense of the middle class. What a shame and a sham.

19. Finally, the truth.
We have two choices at the ballot box in this country: the corporate party and the corporate party.
