Mayor Bloomberg: Occupy Wall Street 'Trying To Destroy the Jobs of Working People'
Mayor Bloomberg: Occupy Wall Street 'Trying To Destroy the Jobs of Working People'
By Harry Siegel Fri., Oct. 7 2011 at 9:23 AM Comments (5)

Mayor Bloomberg fired a warning shot Friday at the city unions who have backed the Occupied Wall Street protests, saying "we're not going to have money to pay our municipal employees" if the financial sector takes a hit and New York's tax take goes down with it.

"Everyone's got a thing they want to protest, some of which is not realistic," Bloomberg said. "And if you focus for example on driving the banks out of New York City, you know those are our jobs ... You can't have it both ways: If you want jobs you have to assist companies and give them confidence to go and hire people."

"The protests that are trying to destroy the jobs of working people in this city aren't productive," Bloomberg said in his weekly radio appearance with John Gambling. Taking a swipe at "some of the labor unions participating," Bloomberg added that "their salaries come from - are paid by - some of the people they're trying to vilify."

largest city. What an unmitigated arse. Of course, that's just my opinion and I might be wrong. :patriot:

Right. A receptionist. Maybe.

3. We aren't trying to drive out the banks...
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 12:34 PM by CoffeeCat
No one has anything against banks, per se. We all use banks.

What we have a problem with, Mr. Bloomberg--and you damn well know this--is that the banks
have bribed our politicians and corrupted our political system. Now, the banks get deregulation,
bailouts and they even get to engage in horrendous practices that crater the economy--all because
they've BRIBED our politicians and turned our democracy into a perverted version of government
that serves the corporations while harming (or ignoring) "We The People".

That's not right, Mr. Bloomberg. And you know it. We don't like the BEHAVIOR of the banks and
we want it to stop.

Shame on you for lying and for perpetuating the sick behavior that enables the corruption of government.

8. Yeah, I haven't heard anyone say they want to drive the banks out.
What is desired is legal action against criminals and regulation and overhaul of a corrupt system. And a little fair play would be nice.

What a tool.

26. Many of us are saying
that let the destructive banks self-destroy as they are doing, no more bail outs of the 1% by robbing the 99%. We can't no more afford the inherently self destructive banks.

And if the the banks are a global house of cards, let the whole system fall down. We can't afford it, the planet can't. We will live and live better without the financial house of cards, the global pyramid fraud. If we decide we are not yet ready to live without some form of money, we can create together other money systems that are not insane and inherently self-destructive.

33. I agree, let them fail before giving them our money.
But that doesn't mean they can't exist. If they didn't play fast and loose with our money there is a place for them.

But there's not a place for those that steal from us so that they can give themselves outrageous bonuses while claiming they need a handout.

35. It is self-evident
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 05:29 PM by tama
that banking system that can only exist as top of the pyramid and as long as the base of pyramid has something left to rob for the top, cannot exist indefinitely. And the writing is already on the wall.

That does not mean that there can't be alternative monetary systems that are not inherently self-destructive where banks can exist.

Just does.

Wall Street can't run unless it's an unregulated criminal enterprise? Please. The same argument could have been made for Al Capone and his bootleggers. Personally, I think the liquor industry is doing just fine with taxes and regulation.

Put a hundred of the top banksters in jail and the market will THRIVE. RESTORE CONFIDENCE! ARREST THE GREEDY BASTARDS!

Restore Glass-Steagall (Big Dog, I screamed when you killed that set of protections. Screamed.) and outlaw derivatives.

It will be like magic.

I'm just trying to establish if he's being fair. Both OWS and the Citizen's United court decisions are based upon the First Amendment.

I believe I already know the answer, but it's always good to ask.

In the bathroom counting his money? Bloomberg is just another piece of shit republican scumbag. He only cares about the Wall Street jobs and doesn't give a shit about the peons. They don't give him money. He is a prime example of what this country needs to irradicate.......money-driven politics. What would the rich do if they couldn't buy elections and legislation? They'd do what we do, bitch, gripe and demonstrate! Except they'd pay someone else to do the footwork while they sat in front of a mirror masturbating to their own image.

44. Poor widdle banks!

Got big bailouts, but all they really wanted was for us to coddle them and change their diapers and powder their delicate little bums. THEN, with their confidence-building pacifiers in their cute widdle mouths, they'd free up some money and some jobs and some titles to homes!

Fuck off, Bloomberg. I wish you were homeless and hungry. Then we'd see how much confidence you'd want to give to those who greedily sunk our economy.
