4. "Grandpa died last week, and they buried him in the rocks...
everyone still talks about how badly they are shocked;
but me, I expected it to happen... oh, I knew he'd lost control-

when he built a fire on main street, and then he shot it full of holes"

6. Here They Go Again. Just Like In 2008!
Here they go again! Just like the Evangelical Protestants did back in the 2008 primary season!

I can't say I'm a bit surprised to see either Perry acting this way or the Religious Righties trashing both Mitt Romney and the LDS Church. Rick Perry is typical of the mud-throwing, Bible-waving hypocrites that the Nazarene condemned that has taken over the Texas Republican Party. Ultra-conservative Evangelicals have made no secret of their hostility to the Mormons and I'm not a bit surprised to see that hostility come out.

I wonder if the Chris-chin Righties will all stay home in their holy snits if Mitt gets the Republican nomination.

In the meantime, I'm going to indulge in some ung*dly schadenfreude.

8. It's Good To Be Right!
I used to participate on another board inhabited by vicious reactionaries let loose with no adult supervision. Almost all of the reactionaries were of the sorts that considered anyone with political and racial views even slightly to the left of John C. Calhoun to be un-American communist traitors. As the forum in question was situated in south Florida, there was a surprising (to my mind at least) lack of input from Religious Right reactionaries. I used to amuse myself by quoting passages from the Old Testament concerning personal behavior, hospitality towards strangers, and other inconvenient texts that run counter to "Amurrican" wing-nut memes and behavior.

What was interesting about those clowns was that while they were almost all right-wing reactionaries, they were SECULAR right-wing reactionaries. They had no idea as to how the Religious Right was biased against minority sects like the LDS or how that bias would affect the behavior of the Religious Right voters that bulk up Republican voter strength. As a matter of fact, a couple of of them accused me of lying when I brought up the overt Evangelical Protestant bias against the LDS Church and the not-so-overt but real bias against liturgical Christian sects like the Roman Catholic Church, the various Orthodox churches, and liturgical Protestant churches.

Needless to say, I am watching the antics of Perry's surrogates with a mixture of disgust and savage satisfaction.

16. If Romney gets the Rethug nomination
they'll quickly find a fundie third-party candidate to cast a principled vote for. Will that insure the re-election of Barack Obama? It certainly stands to, but they don't want to give the LDS missionaries even one more talking point.

9. Robert Jeffress, First Baptist Church Dallas.
He's well-known in these parts, but maybe not so much nationally.

10. One Of Them Was Robert Jefress
One of those speakers was a Robert Jefress, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. The Southern Baptist Church (a particularly large Evangelical Protestant denomination) has declared Mormonism to be a cult.

Jefress' church has 10,000 members.

If you Google 'Christians shouldn't vote for Mitt Romney,' you'll find a VERY interesting controversy flaming among the right-wingers. It may seem like nonsense among the secular-minded but it isn't among the sorts who vote for reactionary Republicans.

Incidentally, I believe that a former pastor of that very same church warned Baptists not to vote for John F. Kennedy back in 1960, claiming that if Kennedy was elected, it would be the end of religious freedom in the US. That pastor objected to JFK's Roman Catholicism.

11. this is why Romney won't be the nominee.
too much of the Republican primary voter base is made up of fundamentalist bigots.

I'm not a fan of Romney, but it's not because of his Mormonism, it's because of his Republicanism.

15. A freeper responds.
Pastor Jeffress was the leader of the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls for many years and while I don’t know him personally, I do know his “style” very well, and he is not afraid to tell things as they are.

He made headlines a while back when he said “Americas’ days are numbered” and “..we will not save America”. Now he makes new headlines with his take on Mormonism.

That’s how he sees things, as he believes God says in his Word. I believe he is right on both topics.

You made me look. I really love watching the freepers eat their own. It's as entertaining now as it was in 2008 when they savaged Romney.
