LOL, Perry backer calls Mitt "Not Christian" and "in a cult"
http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2011/10/07/politics-us-perry-pastor_8723697.html

Killer awkward!

"Rick Perry's a Christian. He's an evangelical Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ," Jeffress said. "Mitt Romney's a good moral person, but he's not a Christian. Mormonism is not Christianity. It has always been considered a cult by the mainstream of Christianity."

Romney is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose members are commonly called Mormons.

Perry's campaign said the Texas governor disagrees with Jeffress.

8. it would be much more so with Mormons - and most Evangelicals these days would
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 06:00 PM by Douglas Carpenter
acknowledge that it is possible for a Catholic to be an authentic Christian providing they had a personal experience with Jesus Christ. Basic theology between Catholics and Evangelicals are fundamentally the same regarding the nature of God and the deity and centrality of Jesus Christ. The disagreement is over the prescribed path to personal salvation. With Mormons their theology is vastly different than standard conservative Christian theology whether Protestant or Catholic. Although Mormons only worship the God of the Bible (and the Book of Mormons of course) believe that their exist a multitude of gods and that the God of the Bible and the Book of Mormons was once a human being. They also believe that humans such as ourselves can eventually achieve godhood. This of course is a major break from standard traditional Nicene Creed theology which was codified in 325 AD under Emperor Constantine which recognizes Jesus Christ as the incarnation of the absolute and only existing omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient God.

5. Trial balloon by the Perry camp
Their only hope is to blow up Romney, and this is the nuclear card.

By getting a surrogate to bring it up, Perry can disavow it, but if it doesn't backfire too badly watch for more people to "start being concerned" about the subject, but purely from a Romney electability point of view.

9. It's a couple of weeks till another debate
Perry's got to be getting mighty uneasy, the only time his name's been in the news this week, it's over a racial slur painted on a rock, and his fumbling ways to deny the truth about it.

He's going to have to play that Mormon card to keep Mittens at 25-30%.

11. I wonder how Rick feels about Matthew 21:12
when Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple. And how he feels about the calls on Wall Street to cleanse the temple all over again.

12. Well, they're not Christian and they ar a cult
So, I guess even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

There are no Christians who are polytheists -- Mormons are. That excludes them from the club right there. Despite the myriad of differences among Christian sects, every version of the creed begins with "I believe in one god."

15. Welll I don't know....
They say that about Catholics too but it's all how you define "God" The Trinity was concocted so there would be no "polytheism" associated with Father, Son, Holy Spirt but in fact there's three right there even if you say it's all one! So if LDS believe in the same God, Son and think they are all quasi Gods or saints or whatever, that's not "polytheism" really....I agree it's a cult but so is Christianity IMO

13. I still think that Huntsman is there only to speak out about his religion at the worst possible time
for Mitt

He doesn't have any reasonable chance of winning or of improving his standing within his party. He must be looking for a diplomatic post somewhere nice, where they speak english and have enough food :sarcasm:.

I am guessing right after Iowa Jon will make some bold move explaining his beliefs, and Romney will be dragged into admissions he doesn't want to make.

This is why they are so desperate for someone like Christie to be available to step up after Romney sinks. Perry isn't electable enough for them.

January is going to be very very interesting.

18. It Was Funny Watching Frothy Santorum Tap Dance Around This...
He was on with Tweety and Tweety asks him if he had any qualms that Mittens was a "Christian". Frothy punted! He finally came around to saying that if Mittens says he believes in jeebus he'll give him a pass. But he sure didn't sound like he thought much of people who wear da magic underware. This guy hates everyone.
