1. AAAAAA--le-lu--ya!
Ya know, every once in a great while, I read an article that gives me hope and
helps me to believe that not EVERYTHING is corrupt--and that some people with
power do get how corrupt our democracy is.

This is one of these stories.

They are rare. But they are wonderful.

So thank YOU for posting it!

4. City of Brotherly Love
Sometimes Philly can seem a little *too* laid-back -- but when it comes to something like this, that's a good thing.

10. Wow. I lived there during Frank Rizzo's reign.
Hard to think of Philly as 'laid back'. It must be 180* different.

14. Philadelphia has come a long way in the last couple decades
The current mayor is very good, in my opinion.

I understand the OWS idea is to show a presence in every big city. But it would make no sense on its own to 'protest' Philly city hall, because even though there's still plenty of corruption and bullshit (it is, after all, a city), a lot of great things are happening and it is definitely going in a progressive direction.

Philly is not Wall Street, that's for sure.

6. The Mayor of Philadelphia
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 09:57 PM by malthaussen
Came out early this morning (around 0100) and chatted with the protesters, said he wanted to work with them "as long as they're peaceful." OTOH, City Hall was barricaded. Still, a little love is better than none.

19. And generally did well with protests.
IIRC, The vast majority of issues with police during anti bush protestors were with cops who were brought in from outlying areas, like PG county and Montgomery county.

Yes, that's why I posted this. He did very well with protesters and to the extent the feds allowed, was respectful of their rights.

12. Ironically if the NYPD did this at the begging I think the OWS movement would have fizzled out
by now.

17. You may be right. At least it wouldn't have been reported on as it has.
Especially since they assaulted reporters.

It's subtitled, "The Man and his evil tricks"

I liked it, but it's not for everyone.
