Occupy Wall Street -- Roanoke's Wall Street


The Occupy Wall Street movement that began in New York City nearly three weeks ago hit Roanoke’s own Wall Street on Friday. Seven people stood at the corner of Campbell Avenue and Wall Street in downtown Roanoke on Friday at noon to protest corporate greed.

The group held two large American flags and signs that said, “99% Proud & Loud,” and “We R 2 big 2 FAIL.”

They sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” slightly off-tune and gave interviews with the media. The event lasted about 10 minutes.

Roanoke resident Adam Cohen organized the gathering on Facebook.

“A lot of people feel frustrated at the current situation,” Cohen said. “I felt like, you know what, there might be a few other people who want to express themselves.”
