Thousands of structures on Lake of the Ozarks must be removed, a federal agency says
CAMDENTON, Mo. | Blue sky, bright sunshine, a warm breeze, ducks on the water and waves lapping at the seawall.

Perfect — this is why people live at Lake of the Ozarks.

So why are the people along Screech Owl Circle mad as hell?

Fighting mad. And scared and worried and not sleeping. They’ve been told that the homes they bought, some with the bulk of retirement savings, and have lived in for years sit on buffer land owned by the utility company that operates Bagnell Dam.

And now a federal agency has ordered those homes to be torn down or removed.

1. I kinda sympathize with these folks but
Every time I hear somebody wondering why the federal guvmint doesn't step in and solve their problems for them, I have to wonder how often they sit in the coffee shop bitching about how that same guvmint should just keep the hell out of everybody's business.

This is clearly governmental overreach.

11. It's not overreach at all. The people who originally deeded the land for these houses...
were deeding land that was already owned.

13. I think this is the same utility company that applied for a permit
Edited on Sun Oct-09-11 09:39 AM by proud2BlibKansan
to build a new power plant. Permit was denied. They built the plant anyway. Then they took the county to court, demanding a permit to operate the plant, since it was THERE.

Public hearings throughout the whole process, that went on for years. The public was adamantly opposed to the plant. But guess what? It's up and running now. And it's a monstrosity.

So if it is the same company, they are used to getting their way, in spite of what the local government or the public have to say.

12. I agree, the Title Insurance company should be on the hook for this
or is that all a scam too, like PMI.
