Reps. Rush Holt and Raúl Grijalva on House Democratic Opposition to Obama’s Tax Deal with GOP
Tax-cuts

The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote on President Obama’s controversial tax deal with Republicans following its approval in the U.S. Senate. While taxes on the wealthy will decrease under the proposal, some tax experts are predicting taxes on the poor will actually increase. We speak to Democratic Congressmembers Rush Holt of New Jersey and Raúl Grijalva of Arizona, who say they will vote against the deal.

14. Fifteen minute vote on the rule. Liberals revolted so they could vote on estate tax
language. This gives an opportunity to oppose parts of the bill.

Vote now is on the changes to the rule. If approved the debate begins, then a vote on the Pomeroy amendment, if that passes they move on to vote on the bill and send it to the senate for Senate approval. If the Pomeroy amendment goes down, they move to vote on the Senate version.

19. AMENDMENT DEBATE: Levin = Average tax cut of 1.5 million to a fraction of the people.
Make the Republicans vote on the amended version, without 1.5 million tax cuts for a few.
