If Romney had an ounce of self-respect he'd tell the "Values Voters" to kiss his ass and drop out

He knows he can't win a general election. The snake handlers aren't ever going to vote for him even if he could walk on water. And he can't beat President Obama without those votes. Why does he put himself through it?

1. Running for president requires a huge ego and a good deal of self-delusion.

2. He could win a general election

Though he probably won't.

That said, your point remains. A large part of the answer is that he is a chickenshit coward. Along with a bundle of other negative qualities. Everything he's done, said, and failed to say supports this.

3. "He knows he can't win a general election."
Actually, Mr. I Will be Anything You Want me to Be, is the type of artificial milk-toast candidate that fools 'em every time.

4. He probably believes he can win
It would be dangerous for the Republicans to nominate him, but I think they could probably keep a lid on the unrest with the base. Some wouldn't show up for him, but many others would hold their nose and vote for him because of their disdain for the Dems and Obama in particular.

I do think he'll win the nomination and I don't think he will win the general, but I don't think the latter is totally out of the question either.

5. Whether he's an active Mormon or not, it bothers me that he rolled
over and did not immediately call out the "Mormonism is a cult" cry. No guts, I would have at least respected him for sticking up for his religion. Bet he loses many of the Mormon vote because of his lack of defense.

6. This is no longer a run for president. It has
now become a contest to see who can best suit the religious right. When will they accuse Romney of actually being a muslim? He is already being accused of belonging to a cult. I don't dislike Romney. I just do not want him for a president. He simply isn't qualified in my opinon. Religion has no place in political affairs. The media love it of course. It is 24/7 "news" for them. I sometimes forget what country I live in.

7. IMO he has an ego a mile wide and he also believes that his church

is destined to take over the country when the government fails.

To #6 It is the Mormon church that claims that they are destined to take over - they are the ones who brought religion into politics not those of us who report it.
