I am so fucking sick of these people.
Edited on Sun Oct-09-11 07:58 PM by WilliamPitt
This last little song-and-dance by some American Spectator whore (look around if you don't know what I'm talking about; you'll find it soon enough) really proves my point.

They are scared: http://www.truth-out.org/bank-it-theyre-scared/1318020817

Here's the thing, DU: we spend so much time grinding gears against each other, even as we agree with each other 90% of the time.

Well, here we are...at a genuine tipping point.

As a DUer, I've been working towards this moment for more than ten years. As a person, I've been at it twice that long.

As people, many many many DUers have been working towards this moment for 30, 40, 50 years. On this board, you are surrounded on all sides by heroes, warriors and good old-fashioned American grinders. Shoulder to the wheel, amen.

As a good man once said: you are the one you've been waiting for. You've been here all along.

I am so fucking sick of the "news" media, of the powers-that-be, of this slow, sneaking abrogation of my basic American rights.

OWS is the first, best representation of that feeling in the pit of your stomach, the one that says, "This is wrong."

Please: if you can show up to a protest in your town - or start one in its absence - do so. If you can bring blankets and food to an ongoing protest, do so.

If you know a good lawyer, let him/her know they might have a slew of new clients soon - I have a strong sense that the billyclubs are going to fly soon (this level of intemperance is tolerated only for so long in America) which means a lot of good people are going to need a good lawyer before too much more time passes.

This is no joke.

I am so fucking sick of these people.

So are you.

Show up.

Stand.

:toast:

It's us or nothing at this point.

Use these freely William, or anyone. Next time you hear a Tparty fan ask 'what are they protesting?'

MARKET SOCIALISM (Money redistributed up, by under-regulated markets beneficiary elites control).
CORPORATE COMMUNISM (Creating a two-party state. A controlling elite & a massive working poor).

They'll try to bring up Unions joining in and bash Unions. You need to turn their 'logic' against them.

Unions aren't perfect, but historically fight for good paying jobs HERE, and a safe work environment.
So ask, why are they against a majority of Americans (working Americans)? That's so UNPATRIOTIC.

37. You are correct.
I have been discussing this with the SO and she, by no means a political neophyte, strongly agrees with the evidence of this on the merits.

Back before the 2008 elections, I was saying that if things were not demonstrably better 3 years into the tenure of whomever was POTUS, this lid would come off of this sucker.

And here we are.

The Teabillies? Astroturf. Wholy-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries Inc, LLC, SA, NA, PPPoE. Fake populism, sold by the measure, bought for pennies on the dollar.

Occupy Wall Street? The Real Thing. That scares the likes of Cantor and his handlers. No one owns it. It's totally organic and uncontrolled.

The lid's coming off this sucker.

40. It's been 30 years for me.
I was part of the high school graduating class that had our Social Security Survivor Benefits cut by Reagan. 1982. I've been mad as hell ever since.

A cousin of mine recently told me that this is the system we have, like it or not. I told him that he didn't get it. We had better. His response was to tell me that I had insulted his intelligence. So I wrote him a short blog about Glass-Steagull, explaining that it was part of what has been dismantled piece by piece over the last 30 years. I got no response and have largely written him off.

When I was 20 most of my cousins my age were cheering on the Reagan Revolution. But I was different. My mom had died when I was 13 and it left my dad drowning in over 70k in medical bills in 1978. He was a small businessman and ended up liquidating everything he owned, but managed to keep food on the table and save our home in large part thanks to those social security benefits.

When my one great aunt saw the way my cousins were, she told me, "I was born and raised a democrat. Then in 1928 went to college, became a republican and voted for Hoover. KICK ME! (yes, her exact words.) She added that she'd been a democrat and only voted democrat ever since.

She was distraught about my cousins. She said, "It's always been the young people who bring about change. If not them, then who?" She added, "If they're conservative now, where's this country going to be 20, 30 years down the road?" She knew she wouldn't live to see it, but her reason for telling me was to tell me to keep the faith. To hold what I knew, what we both knew was right close to my heart, because she wanted me to be one of those few who would carry the dreams on and pass the torch to the next generation who would care enough to make a difference and help bring about the changes we would so desperately need.

We now have those young people, that next generation Occupying Wall St and other locations all across the country. It's not that my job is done. It's not. Now is the time work to side by side and to march side by side with them. Support them, encourage them, and help them continue to ignite the flame that is now burning across this land in hope of a better tomorrow.

The fight is here. The fight is now. Let it begin.

42. It has to start somewhere...
The big question to me, is what the final expectation is. Yes, we can protest the corruption, the endless and overwhelming greed - the sickness of a media that paints decent people as monsters and monsters as true patriots.

What do we want though? What could we all collectively agree, would be a goal to ultimately aim for? A more fair justice system... a media not controlled by corporate money and government influence? I think you're right that we have to step up and be the change we've wanted and waited for. We have to be the heroes we've been searching for in others. We also need goals, something clearly defined or else we're raging against a system we have no idea how to fix.

I'm willing to start a protest, or join one... but first I need to know what the intended goal of it is. Just to get attention? To get criminal trials for the corrupt? To start re-arranging our system of oligarchy?

There has to be a goal because a protest is a means to an end, not an end in itself. I'm far from being organized enough or clever enough to put it all together myself. I can see a lot of what's wrong, but I haven't got the first idea how to fix it all, or what my demands should ultimately be.

Without an agenda that can be clearly defined there's really not a great deal to be accomplished.

45. I'd like to point you to an awesome thread I just finished reading:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x2088697

I would propose that fundamental property relations need to be redone, so that a prick like Steve Jobs cannot accumulate an estate worth $6.5 billion and pass it along largely untouched to his heirs. I would propose therefore expropriating or confiscating obscene hoards of wealth, maybe any estate over $1 million should be subject to a higher estate tax, proceeds of said tax to fund universal single-payer healthcare.

When it started, they used it as a media vehicle to bash Clinton, trying to get him thrown out of office.

And have spent the last 2 and a half years bashing Obama and the Democrats.

64. Legal Observers and Legal Support
If you are involved with your local #occupy and you think you will need legal support, start by contacting the National Lawyers Guild in your area (http://www.nlg.org).

They will start by setting up a legal observer framework to monitor the events and police reaction. They may also set up local legal support coordination office such as the one in New York City or the one that was setup for the SB1070 protests in Arizona in 2010. They can and will help make sure that you have a legal support framework in place BUT contact them NOW not later.

65. Yeah, no shit
I've been waiting for people to finally get sick of this crap since Reagan.

The more the 1% try to fight it, the more it will look like a neo counter culture. This is happening DESPITE the Democratic party. The left if biting back.

67. You said it all, Will. There's little excuse for not showing up
I hope mine will stand. I just had major surgery for ovarian cancer, have to recover for about 6 weeks and then start chemo. I'm barely typing now -- sort of loopy at this point!

I encourage everyone who can to SHOW UP!!! This is, indeed, the tipping point and I'm pissed as hell to miss it!!

71. Billy clubs?
Perhaps, but in LA, the LAPD are bringing food and supplies to the #occupiers. A lot of police recognize who's on whose side.
