Rep. Peter King Fears Occupy Wall Street's Policy Influence

Congressman Peter King (R-N.Y.) is afraid that the growing number of Occupy Wall Street protesters, along with the mounting media coverage of the movement, may end up shaping U.S. government policy like the anti-war protesters did in the 1960s and 1970s.

King was speaking on Laura Ingraham's radio show on Friday when he blasted the protesters as "ragtag mobs" and said he remembers a 1960s left-wing movement that took to the streets and caused policy changes after the media "glorified" the protesters. He hopes that the Occupy Wall Street protesters aren't re-creating the spirit and influence of that historical protest movement.

"It's really important for us not to give any legitimacy to these people in the streets," King said. "I remember what happened in the 1960s when the left-wing took to the streets, and somehow the media glorified them and it ended up shaping policy. We can't allow that to happen."

We, the people, WILL set national policy, Congressman King - no matter how much you dislike it it.

You work for the American people, you goofy right-wing bastard, not the other way around.

12. Fear is the only stimulus they know and use.
It was fear, used by the right wingers, that kept the people in line post 9/11. Bush spent 4 solid years playing the "terra, terra, terra" card on the electorate. It was fear that they used to get the gross bank bailouts in 2008. It was fear that passed the PATROIT ACT (I and II).

Fear is the only tool in the right wings tool bag. Turn on Limbaugh, Beck, Fox News, Malkin, Coulter or any other wingnut water carrier and you'll see the only thing they talk about is fear. Fear of the other guy. Fear of the muslim. Fear of the brown guy. Fear of the yellow guy. Fear of the woman. Fear of the homosexual. Its all they talk about everyday, day in, day out for more than a decade. Probably two.

Its fear that all the right wingers in my office talk about politically, financially and in general (when not talking about their kids, sports and sex). They try to bait me with fear (being the only out-of-the-closet liberal here). Fear of the other guy is what gets them to the polls every other year. They're afraid of everything under the sun, and they're pissed off about it.

Its like they are another species... they're so alien to me.

4. King opposes "The Freedom of Information Act"
A policy that could have prevented the abuses uncovered in "The Pentagon Papers" / Daniel Ellsberg.

20. Of course he remembers the 60's....
that's where the chicken hawks first learned how to dodge the draft and make it look like they did it with honor. Sure he served in the National Guard but in 1968 and '69 there were not many slots open in the guards. It was like Bush, who you knew as to whether you got in or not. They are all a bunch of unpatriotic cowards. I wonder what his stance on the war was in 1968 the year he "joined" the guard?
