Omaha Steve is buying into an NFL team (I won't forget where I come from)

In 97 my nieghbor across the street that was also a Packer fan bought a share. I couldn't afford it then. I'm a life long Packer fan. My maternal grandfather lived 2 houses away from ours. He loved the Pack. That is where I get it from.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Cheeseheads around the world might soon have a chance to own a piece of the Super Bowl champs.

The Green Bay Packers, the NFL's only publicly owned team, are moving toward a new stock sale by the end of the year to raise money that would help pay for $130 million in renovations at historic Lambeau Field.

Each share would likely cost about $200 and include voting rights, though the value wouldn't appreciate and there would be no dividends. Stockholders would be able to attend annual meetings at Lambeau, and they'd enjoy such perks as tours of the playing field and locker rooms.

Best of all, they could legitimately call themselves NFL owners.

FULL story at link.

3. Welcome to the club...
We bought 1 for my dad back in 1997. My brother has a share and bought the Super Bowl Champions ring made for shareholders (it actually says shareholder on the side). It's worth it. :)

5. No, it comes with provisos

It pretty much is a gift to the Pack. It can't be sold, only inherited by relatives.

8. I'm getting just ONE share

I'll have the certificate to hang on the wall showing I'm a part owner. And also be entitled to all owner benefits, meetings, etc.

Also, it's a sense of pride unique to Wisconsin and Packers fans. They have had only four stock sales over team history: 1923, 1935, 1950 and most recently in 1997. A total of 4,748,910 shares are owned by 111,507 stockholders (no one person can own more than 200,000 shares to prevent an individual from attempting to take control of the team). Not only are the Packers no longer selling shares, but existing shares may not be resold or otherwise redistributed.

People buy team swag all the time, this is just the ultimate coolest version of that.
