Occupy Boston, after the fiasco of the arrests...
I'm down here at Dewey Square and have limited access to a pc, here's what i know so far...

Th3e BPD requested that Occupiers move from a recently replanted area across the street from the first site. It is being claimed that police action was "necessary" to protect $150,000 in recent additions to the Greenway. What I saw last night at about 10 PM was one plant that had been stepped on, and 3 Occupiers stating that the plant would have to replaced by them due to damage.

What happened after Midnight, (I left about 1030), became news. The BPD went into the area over the short retaining wall, ran into Veterans for Peace, who were trying to protect occupiers, and began the arrests. VfP members were knocked to the ground and arrested along w/approximately 125 others. Arraignments begin at 9 AM today, bail is $40.

The BPD did extensive damage to an area that was relatively pristine, the old, "we must destroy it, to preserve it" mindset. They went in w/dogs and tore down tents as if they were the hordes of Ghengis Khan. One of the Occupiers gave me a Vietnam Vet cap that was knocked off of a VfP members head.

I'm heading to City hall to register a complaint after posting this.

I'll update later...unless i need to have $40 for my own bail...

4. Thanks for the update, and thank you for staying involved
Manhandling veterans and desecrating the American flag by throwing it one the ground isn't going to end well. The BPD should be ashamed of themselves - or at least whoever ordered it should be!

5. Saw the reports on 4 and 7 this morning ...
4 showed the police going into the VfP'ers and interviewed one after. Wonder what spin Fox25 and Mumbles will put on this.

Thank you for being there. :patriot: :yourock:

8. I do not understand the dumbass police commanders who order this bullshit.
It only strengthens the movement and casts the police as brutal thugs rather than protectors of the peace.

12. Might be good to have a few hundred folks stay in the jail for a couple days. It will cost the city

more to house them for a day or two that it'd make from their bail money. And it'd put stress on their booking system. They might not be as willing to do mass arrests then.

36. One of the Occupiers has a brother in Afghanistan, and when he called...
he said that when the video was seen, there was an Audible grumble. The troops were pissed that vets, and others, were being treated like this.

We're getting worldwide coverage.

just to clog up the system a bit. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if many or most of them happen to experience some sort of medical problem, ie "stomach flu", and need to be checked out.

28. Excerpts from Boston Globe News Article
Edited on Tue Oct-11-11 10:34 PM by JPZenger
http://www.boston.com/Boston/metrodesk/2011/10/boston-mayor-says-sympathizes-with-protesters-but-they-can-tie-the-city/GFmOU1qwApiGhBNsNSzMIL/index.html

"Urszula Masny-Latos, executive director of the National Lawyers Guild’s Northeast regional office, said she was on the scene as a legal observer. The Guild is a national non-profit that often represents people engaged in civil disobedience. Masny-Latos said no protesters fought with police.
“They really attacked,’’ Masny-Latos said of police. "They used force that was completely unnecessary. It was just brutal. I have no idea why they arrested us with such force.’’

To her shock, Masny-Latos herself was among those arrested. She said Boston police usually respect the legal observers the guild routinely dispatches to public protests. However, even though she was wearing a green hat with the words, “legal observer’’ clearly visible, Masny-Latos said, she was the second person arrested by police. “Four officers grabbed me and dragged me,’’ she said. “I begged them to stop, they were hurting me. I have no idea why they arrested us with such force.’’

John Nilles, 74, a former Marine from Medford who served in Vietnam and is a member of Veterans for Peace, said he was knocked down during the arrests.
He believes he did not get arrested in the chaos because he got knocked down and banged up his knee.

James Woods, 52, of Roxbury, a protester who was not arrested, said this morning that police had not used their batons but he had seen them “aggressively manhandling women.” He also said police had used pepper spray on some people. The site was cleared, he said, and protesters’ cameras, tents, and clothes were thrown into a dumpster."

31. Thank you Boston police
You and your comrades in the NYPD and even the Seattle Police have helped to guarantee the strengthening of this nascent movement. It might have sputtered out on its own so you've insured it will not.

Thank you again.

The flame is not in any danger of sputtering out now, so next time, you don't need to beat us to join us.

"This aggression shall not stand," Big Daddy BushCo.

Where's all that "freedom of speech" that W was praising the "liberated" Iraq for having a few years back. Freedom should begin at home.

This song keeps running through my troubled mind.
