Obama jobs council offers up Republican-friendly proposals

Obama jobs council offers up Republican-friendly proposals

Erik Wasson - 10/11/11 10:55 AM ET

The council, led by GE head Jeffrey Immelt, a Republican, late Monday released its interim report focusing on medium-term reforms that could boost employment. Among its recommendations are easing environmental and health regulations and reducing taxes on investors.

(snip- see more introduction at link)

For start-ups, the council is recommending extending a capital gains tax exclusion for small businesses and lowering the rate to 10 percent from 15 percent for investors in startups. It calls for the easing of Sarbanes- Oxley accounting rules and requirements in the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.

Multiple sections of the report call for visa reform, including easing green cards for science and engineering graduates and allowing more highly skill workers and entrepreneurs to obtain temporary visas.

The foreign investment section includes a watered down recommendation to “explore tax reforms” but does specify what new corporate tax rates should be or whether loopholes should be closed.

3. Whadya expect from Immelt
I think he should be dismissed as head of the jobs council and for that matter GE. He has done nothing to increase shareholder value in years.

9. Highly SKILLED. Not 'highly skill' workers.
WTF is with this trend of leaving off the 'ed' of adjectives? I see it everywhere.

No wonder our economy is in the shits - people don't know how to write their own fucking language.

13. Time to sack Immelt. He hasn't been able to get GE stock above 20
except for once, slightly above, in the past two years;

reportedly he had to take tarp funds to stay above water;

he promised he would not cut the dividend, then cut it drastically; and

he just shipped the whole xray division, jobs and all, over to China.

Watch, he'll make millions for failing so miserably.

14. heard this on morning news
it's like WTF. Since little boots, the government has laxed environmental standards for the corporations. What do they want? All standards gone so they can indiscriminately poison all of us? I am all for giving small businesses some incentives, but global corporations have had a field day for over ten years now. These suggestions are pieces of shite. If corporations have been enjoying massive obscene increases in profits, while workers pay has barely increased, why in the hell would you give them more? How does that help americans?

as the disclosures at the links in post #7, should make abundantly clear.
