Response Of the Police Is Expanding With Protests
Source: New York Times

Whether that evolving chemistry will push things toward more confrontation remains unclear. But the combination — new participants, new police tactics — is clearly opening an uncertain chapter in a story that from its inception has embraced the notion of unplanned, unscripted civil action.

1. the cops kill one person, even by accident, and there will be an uprising
that hasn't been seen since La Belle France 1789.

People have had enough of that.

7. The cops are (for the most part) already part of the 99%. Important
to remember Lenin's distinction of a class in itself vs. a class for itself. Cops are part of the working class by definition even if many of them still act as lackies and lickspittles for the ruling class.

9. The 99% pay their salaries, but a member of the ruling class signs their paycheck and negotiates
their contract with their unions.

Judges, who hand down criminal convictions, are often owened.

And the 1% makes makes substantial donations.

IOW, lines may blur.

12. Yes, but do they KNOW it yet?
Or are they still mesmerized by Ronald Reagan's propaganda?

Some do know this...their brothers in uniform will come to realize it, too. And then the revolution begins.

5. oh, the bankers are itching to bring it on, nothing like a good meta-riot to get martial law flowing
So many USA coppers are psychotic multi-tour vets straight out of the Iraq/Afghanistan door kicking/women-kid killing battle arena too. They are just foaming at the mouth to feed the blood lust.

Hope the protesters stay smart and non-violent.:scared:

8. Maybe. I am not sure.
Then again, I have lost confidence in a lot of things since I last voted for hope and change.

11. I just hope the responses to these protests are not like the responses to the protests of the 1960s.

An excuse and/or occasion among the self-righteous for religious fundamentalism, further power of church over government, government authoritarianism and ne-conservatism, etc.

Then, the issues were ideological: civil rights, peace and reproductive choice (roughtly in that order in both time and magnitude). Now the issue is money.

I wonder which the TPTB find more threatening.

I'm guessing the latter.

But maybe we will not see the rank and file turning against us, as happened decades ago.

Very sad that Mayor Menino of Boston was the first Mayor to take a public anti-demonstrator stance.

IMO, he needed to be primaried last time, but that failed, thanks to his judicious use of city resources to ensure his own re-election time after time.

I hope this time, he is primaried.

14. The solution, it seems
would be to expand the protest. That of course requires that I get out of my chair and actually DO something. But think about it, there are many more of us than there are of them. The can't put everyone in jail and they can't out number us. We must remain peaceful and if provoked, sit down..............
