Anyone know what happened to the "cached" option in Google?
As of this am (at least this is the first I've noticed it), there are no cache links on anything, so if the link is an old one or one that updates automatically, it;s impossible to get the cache version..

I have not changed any personal settings..

Did they change it?

1. Ok, here's how to see them. When you move your mouse to the right of a search result...
...two arrows will appear, looking like this: >>.

Hover over those and a mini version of the page will appear on the right hand side of your screen. At the top of that is a link to the page and under that is a link for the cached version.

Try it. Do you see what I'm talking about?

3. BTW, if you're doing actual research, Archive.org is almost always far better than...
...Google's cache. Google's cache is fairly ephemeral in comparison but does capture more recent information.

10. Google seems to excel at fixing unbroken items.
Now if they would just add an option in the Settings page to permanently, absolutely and forever disable "Google Instant". Even setting my browser to not delete cookies when I shut it down doesn't help. Next day, there's Google Instant all bright and happy like the Microsoft Office Assistant Paperclip :eyes:

6. On a related note, is Google's "Real time" option gone for good?
It was very useful.

7. It was useful. The deal that Google had with Twitter expired and...
...that's why it's not around currently. If it ever does come back, it will almost certainly be a part of Google+, which I will never use anyway.

11. So Twitter is not truly open-source.
Lovely.

https://dev.twitter.com/opensource

"Twitter is built on open source software, from the back-end to the front-end! Twitter engineers use, contribute to and release a lot of open source software. We also support a variety of open source organizations! One of our goals at Twitter is to ensure we maintain a healthy relationship with the open source community that has given us so much."

..Is a shit statement

I have a Google+ account and have used it exactly once. It's going nowhere.

12. Well, open source software does not necessarily produce open source content.
I'm certainly not trying to defend Twitter but their statement isn't so much "shit" as "pleasantly misleading". You get all the warm fuzzies without the 100% adherence to the concept that one might have inferred. It's not entirely uncommon for other companies to use just this kind of verbiage to give the impression they're something that they aren't entirely. In the interests of full disclosure, I don't have a Twitter account and probably won't ever have one.

13. Why not ditch Google completely?. Both DuckDuckGo (stupid name, I know), and...

IXQuick not only give better search results than Google, but neither puts cookies on your machines or "data-mines" your info. (or supports Republicon debates)

IXQuick in particular is a defender of internet freedom, net neutrality, and a major supporter of the Electronic Freedom Foundation.

18. Cool, my DU screen name came from the Gumby show
The credits on the show listed their animators as "Tridimensional Animators" which was just too perfect. Since I was also a 3D animator at the time I felt it applied, and just shortened it to "tridim".

17. Okay, I looked at it, but didn't end up trying it.
Why? Because they don't have the one thing that I use every time I open one of my QuickStart links for Google in Opera: Advanced Search page. Also, no page (advanced or not) for searching just images. Google has them beat on both counts, even if I do have to put up with Google Instant.

They really need to design their engine with familiarity in mind, or people won't switch to them. Their settings pages is cumbersome and just too many choices, not to mention how many of them seem either pointless or inexplicable in what they do. Keep It Simple! :)
