UFO shot down above Israeli nuclear plant, military says
Jerusalem (CNN) -- The Israeli Air Force shot down an unidentified flying object over the Dimona nuclear plant in the Negev Desert Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The object appeared in a designated no-fly zone, the air force was scrambled and the object was shot down, the IDF said.

The object could have been a party balloon, the IDF said, but forces have not yet found the debris to determine what it was.

12. What would make you think it wasn't true?
I have not once heard anyone on there say definitely there are people from outer space. I have seen a multitude of evidence presented showing that people have seen things in the sky for thousands of years..Not opinion but facts...Opinion comes about when someone tries to identify what those things truly are.

If it wasn't a party balloon.

13. Yeah, it could definitely be a uav. Making an RC plane that you fly
using a video camera isn't that hard or expensive to do.

20. How exactly does one shoot down, much less lock on to, a party balloon?
Makes me wonder why they aren't blowing away every bird that flies over the nuclear plant as well...

22. With one of these ... AIM-120 AMRAM
Edited on Thu Dec-16-10 02:43 PM by Statistical

AMRAAM has an incredibly accurate active radar seeker and a proximity warhead. If the internal radar isn't powerful enough to get a good signature on the target it can piggy back on the aircraft track radar (much higher wattage) in semi-active homing mode. The prox warhead essentially converts the missile into a giant shrapnel shotgun once it gets close enough to the target. So the missile doesn't need to hit the target just get close.

Israel builds their own missiles but also purchases missiles from the US.

Sidewinder (IR only guidance) likely got no tone because the target has insufficient heat compared to ambient.
