‘Occupy Wall St.’ to resist mayor’s order to vacate park on Friday
Source: Raw Story
By Stephen C. Webster

The protesters at “Occupy Wall Street” in New York’s Zuccotti Park have voted to resist an order by the mayor’s office requiring them to vacate the park on Friday for cleaning, setting the stage for a major confrontation with police.

Bloomberg went to the protest site, where several hundred people are camped out, to explain the move, which would be the first time the demonstrators are asked to leave, the mayor’s office said. Bloomberg claimed the owners of the plaza wanted to exercise their duty in cleaning it — and that this was their right, although protestors would be allowed back immediately.

But in a general assembly vote, protesters decided they would clean the park themselves, calling for supporters to donate “brooms, mops, squeegees, dust pans, garbage bags, power washers and any other cleaning supplies” to help their efforts.

“After General Assembly on Thursday, we’ll have a full-camp cleanup session. Sanitation can coordinate, and anyone who is available will help with the massive community effort!” organizers wrote. “Then, Friday morning, we’ll awake and position ourselves with our brooms and mops in a human chain around the park, linked at the arms. If NYPD attempts to enter, we’ll peacefully/non-violently stand our ground and those who are willing will get arrested.”

9. I can confirm this.
I just returned from the park. They are doing their own clean up (which isn't really needed since they have been keeping the place clean all along) and they have cordoned off areas of flowers and shrubs to protect them.

Hopefully the mayor and property owners will back off since the contrived "dirty-hippie" excuse is unequivocally being discredited. If not it looks like they will lock arms and force the NYPD to evict them.

Hold on... It might be a rough ride.

I wish them all the best and every time I think of how thankful I am for what they are doing it brings tears to my eyes.

10. This is Not a Real Smart Thing to Confront Police On
One of the first rules of trying to maintain a legal demonstration or march is that you scrupulously follow regulations so as not to give any basis for arrests or other trouble. My understanding is that they have approval to return.

11. Not a good idea to bite the hand that's feeding you -
- and not leaving at the property owners request so that they can clean and view their property isn't the best of ideas. The owner has been kind enough to allow them to stay there and has every right to inspect the property. OWS could easily lose use of the property all together by not cooperating with the owner.
