Remember Prof Irwin Corey the comedian?
The world's richest panhandler: Man who begs for money on New York streets revealed to be legendary comedian living in $3.5m home (but he gives it all to charity)

Professor Irwin Corey, comedian, actor and left-wing political activist, strolls along Manhattan's East 35th Street pan-handling every day, seven days a week, for the last 17 years.
Of course professor Corey - who has enjoyed a long and illustrious career spanning Broadway, television, theatre and comedy clubs - does not need the money.
In fact he is not even homeless, despite his scruffy, scrawny appearance, but has an apartment in an affluent area of New York which he believes to be worth $3.5million.

The 97-year-old also donates all the money he raises - sometimes up to $250 a day - to a charity that buys medical supplies for children in Cuba.

8. What's your point? Are you saying Corey was her fan?
Lenny Bruce once described Corey as "one of the most brilliant comedians of all time"

9. One of the funniest guys ever.
One of the things I remember him saying is "If you put a woman on a pedestal...it only makes it easier for her to kick you in the face."

A "philosophy" I found to be true when I was in my 20s.

11. The Professor loved smoking the weed.
In the 80s Professor Corey latched himself onto a rock band and appeared with them on stage in a cameo role. I was in the "entourage."

Backstage, the Professor, who is absolutely brilliant, read and retained everything he could get his hands on, and worked it into his act.

He also quickly found out that I was a steady source of northern California weed, and rarely let me out of his site. LOL. He was much fun to be around!

12. He would have to panhandle for 38 years straight with no day offs
to reach the value of his home at $3.5 million and that's on his higher estimate of $250 a day.

14. Point being he could sell his house
move into a million dollar house and be able to help people a lot more than the panhandling he is doing now.

17. He's 97! I'd guess he's lived in that house for many years.
It may be worth a lot on the market, but if he sells it he won't have it anymore. I doubt it was a very expensive house when he bought it. I give him a break on this one.

18. I'm sure he will as soon as you sell your car and your house and
all of your worldly belongings and give them to the poor.

You miss the point. He's a 97 year old doing schtick in character on the streets of New York to get a few bucks for the unfortunate.

I mean really, what have you done lately in San Diego?

Avoid being mugged? Good plan.

who loses his mark to a professional entertainer.
