Wall Street Protests Spreading to Asia-Pacific Region, London
from http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-10-14/wall-street-protests-spreading-to-asia-pacific-region-london.html">Bloomberg Businessweek:
Oct. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Protests against widening income disparity are planned across the Asia-Pacific region today as demonstrators organizing via social media from Tokyo to Sydney join London in the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The rallies that began Sept. 17 in New York have already migrated across the U.S. to cities including Denver, Boston and San Francisco. The largest gatherings today are planned in London and Australia, according to organizers, who are hoping to harness networking sites such as Facebook Inc. to attract thousands.

“Many people are very inspired by what’s happening around the world, and I know there are 1,300 people on Facebook saying they’re coming,” a spokesman for planned demonstrations in Sydney, Josh Lees, said yesterday by telephone.

--snip--

“We face similar problems with our democracy here in Victoria and Australia as people face in most other developed nations,” according to the Occupy Melbourne website. “Our democracy is unwell.”

“Our democracy is unwell.”

That about says it all, doesn't it?

1. Good. Maybe one of these countries will set a good example and be less subservient to their rich
I'm still waiting for OWS to actually occupy Wall Street, instead of politely waiting outside to be invited in.

3. OWS keeps trying to actually occupy Wall St
within the limits of non-violent tactics of civil disobedience. Today again many get hurt and taken by the police for trying and keeping up the pressure.

Sure as hell they are not just politely waiting outside to be invited in. And if you got better ideas and manpower to proceed to the actual occupying, please share. :)

5. The thing I don't have is the manpower.
Civil or uncivil, it takes more power than they have. They aren't moral people like the British in India who can be inspired by the integrity of protesters, and they're not suddenly going to become moral people. And I'm not sure just how many unarmed bodies it would take against the maximum of armaments they can call in, but we certainly don't have that many.

Personally I've been advocating a general corporate strike since, well, in a manner of speaking, since Reagan got into office. People who are working for the corporate system seem to be unwilling to take positive action against it. But I think people have had a good decade to figure out how to get disconnected from the corporate economy (if you weren't one of those who has known since the sixties).

In general, I think it will take another Depression as far as starvation and suffering goes, before they are willing to do anything, and what they are willing to do is hire private armies to defend themselves.

4. Well, what are you waiting for?
Or rather, why are you just waiting?
