How does the passion of OWS turn into legislation action??

The ONLY way I can see this happening is IF the demonstrations.. heep getting larger.. with massive voter registration that overwhelms the tea party and scares republicans into having to pass something.. OR we get enough registered and voting to remove the republican/DINO's to allow true progressive legislation??

What do others think??

1. This is not about legislation. This is about overthrowing the system.

12. A statement which means absolutely nothing in real terms.
How does it overthrow the system? It's not passing laws, it's not getting anyone elected... unless you're going to suggest that Wall Street bankers will just fold up and go home, or that the federal government is going to collapse because of people sitting in a park, that statement is meaningless.

17. Passing laws is the problem
They pass laws to create a system of oppression and theft and then the elites pass with impunity the laws they impose on others. How do you get legislators to follow their own laws?

Delegislating and/or new constitution can be partial answers. But spreading common sense seems to be most important.

3. There is something to that thought
Both ends of the spectrum are unhappy...one of the few viable opportunities for real change in the US that I have seen in my lifetime.

4. Please don't compare OWS with the Tea Party . . .
OWS is an authentic grassroots uprising. The Tea Party was never more than astroturf. See another post of mine about this very subject: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x2122923

13. +1. The movements have similar grievances and need to work together.
The two biggest problems we face are: (1) Preventing the Democratic Party from co-opting OWS and (2) Breaking the GOP's control over the Tea Party.

5. I agree, and disagree strongly with others
who think we don't need legislative action.
We really MUST use the numbers and energy actually to change the system, and the only way to do it short of revolution is legislatively, that's local, state-wide, and national.

And I'd remove your 'OR' between your 2 options; we need both, massive voter registration AND registered and voting to remove repugs/DINOs.

11. With all the Jedi mind tricks the republicans are playing
in different states.. we need to play their game better than they do.. then shove it down there throats by having peeps become experts on it and follow their rules to massively register peeps and vote the SoB's out of office across this country..

16. You're right, of course, but Dem party has failed miserably in doing so.
In particular, they rejected explained 'framing' techniques.

9. Once the Democratic and Republican parties realize they can't co-opt the movement and...
...divide it with their typical social issues (gay marriage, abortion, etc.) I guarantee you they will figure out very quickly what they need to do to appease their constituents.

The OWS is not a Democratic Party movement. The fact that so many protesters are out there in the first place is an indication that representation through the Democratic party has (mostly) been a massive failure. There is an energy which the Democratic Party successfully tapped into in 2008 and which, after being dismissed ("Thanks for voting, we'll see you in another two years! Don't call us, we'll call you!"), has now wised up to the fact that there is (for the most part) a great deal of impedance to that electricity, even among the more liberal of our two main political parties.

The energy is now looking for a place to flow and building in the mean time.

19. +1,000 Thank You!
you've said exactly what needs to be said. This isn't a "rally" for either party. It's a call for action from the people to the politicians. For too long, voters have had no voice, now they do. Next step is to see what politicians are going to do, not the other way around. Status quo isn't going to cut it anymore.

21. They're going to rake you over the coals for this legitimate question.
I asked a similar question here twice and was ridiculed both times for "obfuscating" while I was actually trying to shine a light on this issue.

22. Social Pressure Will Force Compliance to Behavioral Norms
Finally, a true global village. Corporations will be forced to conform to group pressure because of shame. Cruel and unusual punishment? Corporations aren't people, live with it.

Say you work for a shameful corporation - you'll either quit or face social sanctions. Your teenage daughter will refuse to be seen with you.

Beware the Millennials.
