A spirited crowd of demonstrators gathered at Zeidler Park in downtown Milwaukee today for what was billed as a “day of action” event. The crowd, made up of about an equal number of men and women of all ages, marched from the park to Chase Bank at Water and Wisconsin, and later to M&I Bank near Milwaukee’s city hall, before returning to the park.
“So many of us are told that we should go to school and get an education and there will be a middle class future waiting for us. We’re finding that after taking tens of thousands of dollars in debt, there are no middle class jobs anymore, because the big banks and the greedy corporations and Wall St. broke out economy. We’re the 99 percent, we want a brighter economic future with security, a little fairness and real opportunity,” Rickman says.
Organizers of the Milwaukee demonstration estimated the size of the crowd at more than 1,000.
