A Rethug this morning said Jesse Jackson Jr. said
the government should give all the unemployed a check for $40000. If he actually said that, does anyone know the full context of that statement?

1. It's almost certainly a lie, mistelling, complete misrepresentation, or other untruth...
Rethug plus being aired on the MSM, I don't see how it could have any validity to it.

Sorry, not much help.

2. I didn't want to start an argument with him not knowing

what he was talking about. I just assume it was something he said and Faux News quoted it out of context. I guessing something like if we got out of Irag we could give each of the unemployed a check for $40000 or something of that order. That's what Faux does.

6. Ask him for his source. It's impossible for you to prove that he *didn't* say it.

3. On the other hand
If Some of the bail out to big banks money had been given to everyone in this country they could have paid off their mortgage's and bills owed. That would have helped the banks and the people.

But maybe that was to simple a solution.

4. not really - Bush's stimulus (the $300 check per working person)
was about 1/3 the size of TARP.

$900 per working person would help for sure - but would not make a permanent differrence.

5. I am thinking it was something of that order and Faux
aired it out context as usual.

7. That is not what Jackson said.
Here is what I found:

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has offered his own $804 billion jobs plan that calls on the federal government to hire the nation’s 15 million unemployed Americans for jobs paying roughly $40,000 each, and bail out all the states and cities facing budget crises.

In an interview with the Daily Caller on Wednesday, the Illinois Democrat applauded President Obama for directing his staff to greenlight job-creating initiatives without congressional approval after his $447 billion jobs bill was defeated in the Senate this week.

“Now we’re making some progress,” Jackson said, comparing the legislative gridlock in Congress to the states that seceded from the union during the Civil War.

"We've seen Congress is in rebellion," he said, "determined to wreck or ruin at all costs."

Jackson said the government’s direct hiring of the nation’s 15 million unemployed Americans would cost $600 billion.

“It could be a five-year program,” he said. “For another $104 billion, we bail out all of the states. For another $100 billion, we bail out all of the cities.”

9. That is ridiculous as hell, if you are working at McDonald's
for $15000 a year and everyone on unemployment is given a federal job paying $40000. Doesn't he think before he opens his mouth?

11. I am glad I never said anything, I would have looked like a fool
starting an argument about it. There are certain people that you never know what will come out of their mouth so you best double check before arguing about it.

10. rightwingers say the dardnest things.
However the concept of a negative income tax was pushed by that wild eyed anarchist Barry Goldwater (and his pal Milton Freidman) back in '64.
