Beautiful.
The sight at the MLK memorial. A black president giving a stirring speech. A stunning inspiring first lady standing nearby.

Just beautiful.

We shall overcome is such a moving song. It's hard not to tear up listening to that choir.

Beautiful. Just so beautiful.

I wish that MLK, the people who fought for civil rights -- black, white, all races -- who are now gone could see this.

Most of all, I wish the slaves who suffered such unimaginable torture of mind and body for so many centuries could see this moment. I hope they had enough hope to at least dream that such a moment could happen someday in the future. :grouphug:

1. Beautifully said, shireen
What a blessing on so many levels, this celebration. Music--Aretha Franklin, that amazing choir, Stevie Wonder. Words--the President's speech, which I found inspiring, and now the video of Dr. King's I Have a Dream speech. How sad that there are those who would diminish this moment, and his goal is to take away the hard-fought rights gained by the Civil Rights Movement.

Let us work against the machine that would undermine our freedoms. Let us keep the faith!

Peace.

2. This was SO overdue, but I'm glad it finally got done
I actually have right wing acquaintances that are angry and insulted over this. You can't even make them understand that they too benefited from Dr. King's work.

Though this memorial was a LONG time coming, I am so proud of those who made it happen!
