1. I thought when he was named it was said that he was a mere "placeholder"
He's already had at least two minor? strokes and was said to have had heart surgery (secret) in recent years. When he was named he was in supposed poor health as I can recall his brother saying something to the effect that his would be a short papacy, given his health?

I won't wish him ill, but as Popes go, he certainly is not, in any measure, good for the long term future of Catholicism.

7. I took one look at him and said his reign would be short and acrimonious
I've been right about the acrimonious part. It remains to be seen if the short part comes through, too. Right now, it looks like it will.

Then we'll be treated to the spectacle of the church conservatives trying to kick him upstairs to be a saint.

but he is 84 years old and in dubious health so it isn't surprising.
