My Apology to Young Democrats

For quite sometime I have been chiding my young Democratic friends (including my daughter) for not taking to the streets as we did in my youth. I could not understand why they were not motivated to bring about change from the bottom up instead of the top down.

With the "Occupy" movement that has now gone global, I am proud to say that I was wrong. I was wrong to call you lazy and unmotivated. It may have taken longer than I thought it would...but I'm happy that it has happened at all.

The coming weeks and months will be difficult and messy as these things can be.. But understand that there are so many people behind you and support you in your effort(s) to bring back some sanity to our existence.

At the MLK event, I heard our President say the following...and I will be using it far into the future:

"Government is an expression of our commitment to each other."

1. I am surprised that young people have taken to the streets at all..

I don't think it is lack of motivation. I think it has more to do with the numbers of young people that have to hold down two jobs or one full time job and going to school full time (my two oldest are in this situation) or they have young children to take care of...In any case I had the same problem with taking to the streets and that was decades ago. But, I was able to attend an occasional rally with toddlers in tow...
