Massachusetts GOP, Elizabeth Warren spar over "hick vote" comment
BOSTON — Massachusetts Republicans are criticizing Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren for pledging to seek the "hick vote" as she tries to unseat Republican Sen. Scott Brown.

Warren, who grew up in Oklahoma and teaches at Harvard University, made the comment about herself on Monday, saying Republicans were casting her both as an elite and a hick.

Warren said: "I think I'm a new category, the elite hick."

When pressed by an interviewer on the website Left Ahead who said he also grew up in Oklahoma and had been called a hick, Warren replied "I'm going for the hick vote here."

1. Ah... god bless the literal-minded...
This does not surprise me at all, given the fact that even here on DU, we need to identify sarcasm with a special emoticon or people go batshit.

5. I woke up this AM with news blaring that Warren was involved in a snafu
that opponents are attacking. So, I waited for the story and heard she grew up with people calling her a hick. Huh? That was it? Brown and his ilk are the true elitists as they side with big corporations and vote against the jobs bill for Massachusetts workers.

9. Much love, Elizabeth Warren
Conservos brag about "straight talk" and how un-politically correct they are....until someone else straight talks about them.

Hicks who vote Republican brag about this, but when a liberal refers to herself in that manner she is being insulting.

Typical.
